Sucks to move down, but they will gay a really good prospect. It's hard, but you have to be patient. I wonder if a deal with Vegas and the Sedins would be possible.

Well you tank for 1-2 spot and end up at 5. Yes that's for nothing.
- manvanfan

That's missing the point.....we didn't tank for anything , the team itself is just that bad. They try to win...but don't have any talent. They gave everything they have and it panned out as the second worst team in the league. Not a true tank....just a poop team

I still think Mittlestadt has a higher upside.
- LeftCoaster

Very possible I think we would be safe with either pick…I do like the fact that Glass is a RH shot though.

So rumor has it Mittlestadt says he is staying all 4 years at college. Huge red flag and no chance we or anyone should take him. He will go to UFA and sign with the wild to stay home.

Jake Virtanen at 6th and Nik Ehlers at 9. Clearly picking higher gets you a better pick always.
- manvanfan

Who needs a pick in the first 4 rounds when you can get Benn in the 5th. Might as well give away all those useless picks.

The thing I find odd about all the Foote hype on this board is that: if the kid were truly projected as the number one D-man everyone in this thread believes him to be, would he not be higher ranked lol?

At this point, he's what, the 4th highest ranked D after the Fin, Makar and the Swede?

- Whiskey-Tango

I don't think he is a top ten guy . I like his style. I think he can add grit and also can score points. I do think he may be the third best Dman in this years draft but I think he is going to be better than Tanev. I do understand he is like a Sanheim type guy and not a Seth Jones.

Really? Where did you read that? that is a red flag, makes it easier to select Glass

incompetent managers and owners does not factor into the fact Ehlers should have been picked higher. You're just being a whiny female dog.
- LeftCoaster

I didn't turn to name calling. I showed logic.

According to NHL central rankings Ehlers wasn't even in the top 10 in NA.

Back to my point that picking 5 or 8 or 15. Don't really know how its going to turn out. At least drafting 1-2 you have a higher chance at getting a more legit player.

Since 2012 the only 1 or 2 pick not to be in the top 5 in scoring in their draft year is Ryan Murray.

And that's it - Imagine if Oilers had taken Schiefele and Lindholm instead of Nuge and Yak? Yet they went with concensus and made the picks that were expected at the time. Then you have guys like Tarasenko and Kuznetsov go in the second half of a draft that has Burmistrov and McIlrath top 10... even the draft is somewhat a lottery, and there's always good players to be had all through the draft - you just have to find them.

As I mentioned up there 1-2 in the draft in the past years have been much more sure picks then anywhere else.

Another forum so who knows if true. I thought he might after him playing with his high school team instead of USHL. If all you had to do is qualify him after his Sr season I would have no problem, but him being able to reject a contract offer and then become a UFA in 2 months is probably the stupidest thing in the NHL right now.

No you're not showing logic, you're just complaining because you didn't get what you wanted and now you're picking random drafts to prop up your argument.

That historical facts are there, the better players come from higher in the draft, it's not even debatable. Do some great players come from later in the first round or in other rounds, absolutely.

True. But we also need a top level Dman and Foote could be that guy. Need to move Tanev/Edler to get a pick from 10-20.
- LordHumungous

Tanev is far more valuable than a mid rd 1st in a weaker "" draft. If Tanev is moved it should be for a F that is in the league now. Or a prospect Dman and mid 1st.

let's not be giving valuable assets away.

take a dman unless glass is there

also time to seriously put the feelers out for chris tanev. Id be calling Toronto and asking about Nylander. Eat a bad contract and maybe send them columbuss 2nd as well if we get it.

And that's just it - McDavid, Eichel, Marner, Matthews, Laine; all five could have easily been a first overall in a different year. And I would argue that it's no coincidence at all that the draft procedure is changed after a year when teams were so conspicuously throwing away the season to try and get a shot at drafting McDavid.

The only way Sedins leave vancouver is to a contender, which even that is unlikely
- phyllee

Maybe it's better the retire as Canucks. They are basically 2 Ryan Smyths to that franchise.

Hard to blame a team tanking to get a McDavid.

He is worth two 1sts to a team like Tampa 14th OA this year and probably 20-31 next year plus.

Look at what we gave up for Gud. More than that and he is garbage. Larson got Hall. Tanev is worth a lotmore then people are giving him credit for.
