100%... If Linden tries to attend next year's lottery I'm gonna need y'all to start a GoFundMe for bail $

Dudes legitimately in play @ 5 IMO:

Mittelstadt
Glass
Pettersson
Makar
Vesalainen
Heiskanen
Necas
Vilardi

Kinda looking forward to the process of elimination.

Really for 5th? What are you basing that on do tell. You got a take for what Avs & Stars pick? Then what you prefer for Nucks?

Matt Sekeras.

Apparently Linden didn't want to go to the lottery but Benning made him because it was Benning's birthday and he didn't want to go.

I think it could get ugly in here tonight, what a shame with Makita's only night home and all.

"People don’t realize how lucky (Toronto) got (in 2016 when they won the lottery and Auston Matthews). What we saw today was more a continuation of that. People say the more you lose the better your chances, but you’re talking about such a fine line."
-Trevor Linden

It was always the most likely result: the Canucks had a 64.7 per cent chance of *not* picking in the top three, after all.

Why tanking in the new lotto system is a flawed plan. Plan to improve and develop. Draft smart. Rebuild using all resources possible.

Signing plugs to destroy seasons to stay at the bottom is a recipe for prolonged ineptitude. Pump and dump UFA's @ TDL is another losing formula. Most teams don't buy at TDL and if they do they go for strong resumes. If the team is failing then likely that loser UFA looking for a rebound is also as well. Good UFA's don't sign show me deals on bad teams.

So draft, develop, trade and look to win. Then sign guy's to do that more. Only way to break the cycle of losing and improve.

Yes, really... Both guys have intriguing skillsets & ceilings.

We just saw Vesalainen DOMINATE a tournament against his peers (didn't he double the offensive production of Hischier & triple that of Necas? - don't quote me). Sure, his season stats playing against men were awful, but I don't have any info on what kind of TOI/opportunity/linemates he had on that team just yet. If he had been in the Q with the skillset I saw in that tourney, I'd project him to be pertnear Nico's stats.

One of the reasons skillsets mean more to me than stats... You can't compare production in the WHL/OHL/Q/USHL/various Mens Leagues straight across...

As for Pettersson, again, his skillset is very intriguing. Hockey IQ, some of the best hands in the draft... basically led a men's league team in scoring (chemistry with Dahlen) & doesn't sacrifice defense to put up offense. Plop that into the CHL & he'd be talked about right up there with the top guys.

There's a lot of NA bias when it comes to draft chatter IMO...

Still kinda worried about how well his game will translate onto NA ice, when there's less time and space for him, but I have moved him up.

Legit concern... I know he can dangle in a phone booth with those hands, but I get that he's slight etc. Still worth consideration as far as I'm concerned because the potential is there to be the best player on that list in 5yrs.

I am not one of the sheep that base everything on stats and CHL here. I get that those two have talent but would see them below 5 spot and they are wingers. Others like Mittlestadt and Glass are true centers for the NHL game. They have the physique (over Pet not Vas) and can skate well. Their hockey IQ seems on par as well. They have just as good or better upside too. But their compete and drive is amazing. Plus their play already styled for NA game. Thus, believe them to have more of an impact in the NHL. So rank them higher.

I am actually relieved it's not a Nico or Nolan choice. They look like early peekers in their games and established as favorites. But not being elite franchise talent won't excel impact wise much more in the NHL. So now the pressure is off taking them. Nucks can get the guy that will outshine them.

Was hoping to win 3rd so we could control it more to use against Avs, Vegas & Yotes for a trade down if they wanted D. But fracken Stars fracked Nucks again. Oh well. Now just more of who is left. They may go with D though.

So what is the early consensus for the 3-5 picks with Nico/Nolan gone to NJ and Phi.
Either one of a D, Vilardi, Glass, Mittle will be available i guess.

If Dallas or Colorado take a D, that means that one of the C's Vilardi/Glass/Mittle will be there.
If not, i'm ok with taking the 1st Dman available again, and trust in JB to grab a gooden.

Are we starting the 'throwing the towel-in for Dahlin' chant yet?

You are talking to a fan base that hasn't won a Cup. It's 47 years and ???!!!??? Counting. Let alone multiple in the last 20 like the Devils. I know it stinks across the marshes by your rink but please leave the pitty party there.

I sort of feel relieved . If Benning went up with the first over all and selected Liljegren we would be hearing about it all year
