Patrick had a lot more hype a year ago than today because his production for his age in the WHL was amazing, and he had a great playoff run as well. People expected him to be even better this year, but he was pretty much the same, if not worse.

2 things to consider though:

Injuries - he was in and out of the lineup

His team - They were 48-18-6 last year with WHL stars like Provorov, Quenneville, Hawryluk on the team, all 3 were gone this year and his team finished at 31-31-10

So clearly his numbers were a bit inflated last year playing on a stacked junior team, but at the same time players usually get better year to year in junior since there's so much growth in players at that age from year to year.

So people are wondering who the real Patrick is.

I find that the toughest to remove from the equation of evaluating prospects. Some of the advanced stats do help in determining who props others up, but it still very difficult IMO due to the confidence that players on a deep team has

Stacked team and played a full season scoring rate 1.42 per game.
Unstacked team, injured season scoring rate 1.39 per game.
Big difference there.

Jesus Booner. Don't let it rile you up.

Why do Van fans continue to get wound up by idiots like Healy, Cox, Kipper etc? It's madness. I swear to poop it's the only fanbase that listens to these clowns. You never see Flames, Sens, Jets, Oilers, Canadians or Leafs fans quoting these guys.

Nucks fans are solely responsible for TSN still being an entity.

Again though, what made his original numbers so impressive was that he did at 17. Those same numbers aren't as eye-popping at 18.

I'm not ripping Patrick at all, I still have him at #1. Just presenting the case for why he's not as highly thought of as he was a year ago.

We get wound up by Healy, and especially Hughson.
- Aetherial

I know for a fact that Hughson is a bigger Leafs fan than Canucks fan now. He'll tell you this over a beer before the conversation will move on to flyfishing... He has a cabin just down the road from my father and I.

For the record, Healy is a clown. I'm not sure where your assessment of the Leafs depth is coming from though. They had nine rookies in the lineup for most of the year. The depth is based on youth. Why would they lose it? What makes you assume the rebuild is over?
- stonehead

When you trade a 1st and 2nd rounder over a 10 month period for a vet goalie and a vet 4rth liner... to chase the playoffs, and draft in the bottom 10... rebuild is over. You are now focused on the next stage...way too early. Where is the Legit #1 and #2 D going to come from? By the time your rookies mature, Andersen will already be in his 30's...

Again, look at the Oilers... they built up their pool to the point where they could trade for high end young D and not get murdered by creating big holes to do it...

Leafsnet did their big take-down piece earlier about us doing it wrong. They pointed at us trading 2nd round picks for young players... only 3 months after the Leafs traded a 1st for a vet... followed by them trading a 2nd for a 4rth liner in his 30's... it just shows you how full of poop they are... and how gullible people are.

Just check Booner's original post for an example. Not certain Leafs fans, ALL Leafs fans.

But that's OK. We've fought oppressors and bullies our while lives. It's what makes Leafs Nation stronger and bigger.

Hahaha... and people in Toronto wonder why most of the rest of Canada compares you to Americans. That sounds so American, I'm surprised you didnt yell "(frank) ya", "make America great again".

He's right about one thing though, you guys get triggered by TSN/Toronto so easily and yet you continue to watch/click on their channel/website when there's plenty of other sources for NHL news these days. Hell, you can just google search Bob McKenzie if you want you only want to see his stuff and avoid the main site.

It's kind of insane.
