This grade may blow up the internet! Honestly an a is deserving for this year, he was the most consistent player on the team. What that says for the team is a different story but for this year I think it's a fair grade.

P.s (frank) you if you disagree

So Tavares must not be trying either
- Dan Petriw

JT is one of the bigger culprits. He turns the puck over in the D-zone, doesn't hustle back to help and doesn't play the body. I don't expect, nor do I want, him to hit like MM. Tie a man up, put some pressure on. Personally, I think JT turns it over because he's trying to do too much by himself. I'm not sure why though.

I'm not giving a pass to Bailey or JT when they do things like this. Maybe this is why this team does not want a hard ass coach and want a guy like Weight because they will not be called out for this stuff?

Yeah, but since when do the players hire & pay the coach. It's the inmates running the asylum. If my boss was a dick, which he isn't, and I went to the owner and said I wanted a boss that wasn't a hard-ass, I'd probably get laughed out of the building. It's exactly what's wrong with this franchise, no accountability. None. It's a (frank)ing disgrace.

I agree. Players should not be picking the GM and coach, but things seemed to be geared towards making JT happy.

And that's why this franchise is the way it is. Placating to the players. I'm not saying that JT shouldn't have any say in anything, it just seems like everything this organization does has to go through him. Certainly he can have some input, you can ask his opinion, but at the end of the day he either plays for the coach that I hire or trade his ass.

If Bailey was on the third line putting up 35-40 points, this would be a really good hockey team. It is not his fault where he plays or how much he plays.
- Dan Petriw

I cant beleive how many people sing the praises of Bailey. He has had one decent year one out of 9 years. Why? Cause he was playing with Tavares and Lee. I give Lee a lot of credit for Bailey more than I do JT. Lee was the one to go to the dirty areas and get those goals. Lee was the one going to the boards as BAiley would just stand there and stare into space. If Bailey can prove he can do that next year then maybe we have turned the corner. I for one am not counting on that. He will look great the first month and when the Islanders are eliminated from the playoffs. He will show maybe a game or two between there and that is all.

On another note if you are going to let one player control the whole team (JT) then I am all for letting him go. I have said this before but the Islanders need to make a huge trade and trade players they dont want to. Anything to improve this team

Give Bailey credit that he played all 82 games which says a lot about how he trains and approaches it as a pro. This also makes him a candidate for the new franchise because approach rubs off on other players. Give him credit for not being a complainer.

Conversely Bailey is the 'nice guy' type that Snow and Wang looked for and the team ended up with too many like him. JHS was considered the maverick but maybe Wang was also drawn to his multicultural background which deserves praise.

Just another example of how some new GM would go more for the Milan Lucic type who can bring some snarl to a team that routinely dumped games in groups of five or more.

I don't think it's training. I think it reflects his aversion to playing even a remotely physical game. If you never hit, if you avoid being hit at all costs, you're much less likely to get injured.

How he approaches it as a pro? His approach is to neither hit nor be hit. It's fairly easy to not get injured when you're not making contact with anybody. What exactly would he have to complain about? He played on JT's line, he wasn't held accountable for anything and got paid for 8 mediocre seasons.
You're praising him for playing a full season, then dissing him for being easy to play against. He had a nice year, yes. Perhaps if he repeats it, some of the heat from us fans will ease up. But he, along with several other players, need to step up their "Battle Level" in the D-zone.

This! Isles will continue to have a hard time winning anything with guys like Bailey and Nelson playing important minutes.

Which is nuts JT is a great player but when will the owners see that what makes JT happens is not always what makes the team better,

Why exactly does that deserve praise? Is he running a diversity club or a hockey team? I don't give a crap about JHS or anyone else's ancestry. If it was a factor it deserves condemnation.

Only sh!tty, gutless owners play pat-ass with their players. You, as an owner, have to do what's in the best interest of the team, not one star player. Players are going to play for whatever coach gets hired. Obviously if the entire has big issues with that coach then there's more to it. But if one player says "I can't play for him", then you trade him. It'll be out in the media and social media and he'll probably be pegged as a cancer if it happens again or multiple times.

A year for Josh Bailey. Not he isn't a 1st liner. But he sure as hell did NOT hold the 1st line back this year.

I still like JT and want him signed long term, but I did not like his game at all this year and it's not about his point total. Forgetting Bailey for a minute, Lee had 33 goals so JT should not have been trying to do too much. He was not exactly playing with 2 four line guys.

Seriously, Dan? That pretty much describes his career prior to this season, doesn't it? 35-40 points on the 2nd or 3rd line, usually about -5 or thereabouts, and the team has never been "really good."
- JohnScammo

My point is he is playing out of his role. He is a third line winger (and fine at that) it's not his fault he is playing where he is. I just don't know what he can do to appease the fanbase.
