That's not necessarily true either. Yeah, a lot of season ticket holders are wealthy, I'll give you that, but not all of them. I grew up with a guy who's dad is a season ticket holder (and lives 2 hours from the ACC), he drives a cab, average middle class family. Lots of season tickets have been held by families for decades. People find a way.

Does he go to every game? Or does he sell some or split the cost to make it more affordable?

2000 empty seats for a playoff game??? What a great fan base.

The reality is simple. Ottawa is a marginal NHL market. They're a Canadian team that has to sell"flex packs" and sell seasons tickets at a discount to help entice people to buy. They rarely sell out games that do not involve the beloved Habs or Leafs. They are now in the 2nd round and there are row and rows of empty seats. Kanata is quite a haul but that kinda drive would not preclude fans in any other CDN city or most US cities from driving similar distances to attend games in their city.

If I have to listen to another Sens fan moan about their team getting little respect I will vomit. They don't even respect their own team enough to sell out games. Sens Army is a JOKE

The Senators are and will be a budget team. So, realistically, they have little chance at winning a Cup. Once Karlsson leaves in a few years, then things will really go in the toilet.

- BernardShakey

Ok, so small market team will never win the cup? alright, let's just eliminate all of them now and remove the cups from small market teams that won them!

We don't even have 1 million people in Ottawa and you compare MTL (over 4M) and Toronto (over 9M)!! plus most of their seats and suites are all from businesses and not actual individuals...

Yes we are a small market team and who cares, 17K average for a small market teams is good. This is the only playoff game we didn't sell out...the next 2 home games are almost already sold out...
some poster says Winnipeg sells out every game, yeah, cause their sellout is 15,500! big deal!

Lame but didn't not expect anything more. Can't wait until game 2 when there will be 5000 empty seats.

I'm sure he does sell games but any season ticket holder anywhere can do that. That's my point, people find a way to make it work.

Winnipeg does a great job of supporting their team. I'm hoping that they can can continue to add and make it back into the dance soon.

You are the lame one for trolling an Ottawa Senators blog after your team was eliminated. It shows how sad your life is to go poop on other teams. Sad...

All I'm hearing is excuses.

If this was a Leafs vs. Sens series you'd have droves of Leafs fans DRIVING IN FROM TORONTO ON ANY DAY OF THE WEEK, many of which would be adding a hotel, two tanks of gas and 3 meals+ to their expenses! The same could be said for Habs fans who have half the distance to get to Ottawa, many of which would also suck up a 2hr+ drive home on the same night... And you guys are complaining about a short drive and using the excuse of "a young fan base without disposable income as an excuse?"

So not only can thousands of tickets be had at cost through the usual channels, but knowing that the game hasn't been sold out the scalpers and secondary markets will be forced to eat some of the cost, ultimately making loads of sold tickets cheaper than cost.

And yes, I lived in Ottawa for years as a student and went to countless games (even when the Leafs WEREN'T in town) and know first hand what the Sens' fan base is.

Sorry, but this is an embarrassment for this organization and fan base. I'd expect this from a number of American based teams (i.e. Florida, Jersey, Arizona), but as a Canadian franchise this pathetic.

...And some of you actually have the audacity to call the Sens "Ontario's Team" when this kind of part-time fan business is going?

- As_I_See_It

We are Ontario's team because we're the only one of them still left in the playoffs this season. We are Ontario`s team by default now, the two sweetest words in the English language: DE-FAULT DE-FAULT DE-FAULT!!!!

Enjoying months and years of talking about how much Austin Matthews`handicap has gone down given his high amount of experience on the links, budday.

Leafs fans in here, trolling about ticket sales in the 2nd round of the playoffs is just the best thing I've read in a long time.

Uh?
I could see a 20 - 25 year sneaking beer in ...but anyone over that...doubtful...unless pretty immature.
25 - 40 spend a lot of money on entertainment. In Ottawa, you have what two sports teams to spend money on? CFL and NHL.
Im not talking season tickets...Im talking playoff games...people 25 -40 (maybe 20 was too young) have quite a bit of expendable money.
$50 -$100 for playoff tickets.....no excuse for cost and not attending.

- Fakepartofme

What planet do you live on? People 25-40 have the least expendable money. Let's see. Those in the younger bracket have student loans and car payments. Those in the higher bracket have mortgages, car payments, and kids.

It's one thing to have expendable money to pay $40 for the CFL, or a regular season Sens game, but when we are talking about over $100 bucks (plus, plus, plus), we are at a totally different level.

There are no $50 playoff tickets. $100 is the min.

The people over 50 are the ones with 'expendable money'. Many of those are mortgage free and their kids have moved out... AND they are making the most they will make in their lives.

Listen, I am one of the people who has gone to the games, but I can't afford to do more than 2 games. My wife and I have already dropped almost a grand.

The 20-40 age group will never be the main people supporting any sports franchise. Again, look at the lower bowl of any hockey game and tell me who you see there.

In your dreams. You're more dislusional than we thought if you think having a slightly longer season makes Ottawa Ontario's team. You'll always be the little brother and an afterthought. Embrace it.

Toronto is on the verge of being very good for a long time. Enjoy this while it lasts.

Probably a lot more than 17K Leafs fans looking at pictures of Auston Matthews' mom on the internet. Don't know if you've looked at some of their blogs but many of the posters have talked about how hot Auston's mom is.

When you suck ass for over a decade, you better be 'very good for a long time' after that.

Fair enough, every team has been there, but I can assure you that only Leafs haters
are the ones holding on to that past.

All that matters now is what the current management group has done since being here, how the team has responded and where the team is headed. Whether you're a Leafs fan or not, what Lou, Shanny and Bads have done in a VERY SHORT TIME is nothing short of exceptional.

There isn't a team in the league that is rising faster than Toronto at the moment.

You're delusional by default for being a Leaf fan, it comes with the territory I know.

During your decade (!!!) of absolute suckage, playoff heartbreak (that game 7 vs. the bruins STILL makes me laugh), we've been slowly but surely picking up Sens fans all over the province. Northern Ontario is ours now, and as we expand our AHL franchise down to Belleville we're building a larger and larger fanbase outside the core GTA.

I'll stick with the team with more playoff success in the last ten years (like, you know, by winning playoff rounds and who have been able to actually play for the Cup) and who have the best defenceman in the world playing for us, thanks.

Hey buddy, do you wanna please STFU. I'm sick of reading your phucking stupid opinion all over the place. Yes we're a small and unimportant market with no truly dedicated fans and empty stands. Ok we get it. Now get a life and phuck off! This is undoubtedly some bitter troubled Leafs fan...
- sgoodwin

The truth hurts I guess. Ok, I will let it go. Enjoy your little run. two more years Karlsson wakes up and moves from that one horse town

I'm not saying this to be a troll, I'm just curious. If it was Ottawa and Washington in the first round, how do you think it would have played out?

Sens fans are saving their money for the Finals. This team can make it there.

Also, who cares how many fans are in the seats. What does that discussion do for anyone?

This team and it's captain are playing great and exciting hockey and all the talk is about attendance. Kind of a bummer

pathetic..no excuse.
2nd round of the playoffs that you are lucky to be in.
tickets are under $100 for the most part

If you cant fill the arena during the playoffs....move to a city that will.
its 20 mins outside the downtown core.

- Fakepartofme

I have a buddy who moved to Ottawa last year.

He said it is a breeze getting in and out and to the game compared to Leafs games.

It's quite sad actually
