Ugh... no more college guys. This CBA-UFA loophole is becoming a nightmare.

I think you need to do your due-dalliance. get an idea in the interviews what their goals are. See how quickly they want to turn pro

1st round guys very rarely do that, and if they do we get compensation

Obviously would love to win the lottery and take Nico, Gabe, or Patrick... but, I'd be very happy with Tippet, Mittlestadt, Lilijegren, or Makar.

I still think Lilijegren is the best defenseman in the draft regardless if he didn't have a stellar year. Anyone playing in a mens' league at that age will have more trouble than a guy dominating in juniors.

mittelstadt's a no for me now. majority of his scoring is coming on the powerplay which is like the last thing this team needs

The parade of dysfunction continues in Buffalo.

Structure, Character & Discipline...could you be anymore vague Terry? How about "Honor, Integrity and Hard Work?". What a bunch of corporate nonsense. It is becoming clear Pegula doesn't know what he's doing, didn't he sign Tim Murray to an extension in October? Is this what "hockey heaven"(another nonsense term) is supposed to look like?

Good luck to the next GM! I think it's Bull$!!! that they didn't give Murray another year. It's not like he didn't have a plan, and Pegula has to know that you don't just turn a historically bad team into "perennial playoff contender" in a year or two. If the Maple Leafs are your yardstick, you have to remember the Leafs bottomed out at 68+69 point seasons, the Sabres hit 52+54 points. We were really, really, really bad remember?

So yeah, I hate being a Sabres fan again, but it will be interesting...hope the new GM is ready to make a playoff push next year with the Sword of Damocles over his head!

selfish thinking, most of these small chl towns live off this rule but nobody really gives it any thought.

I can see it now, Borgen takes a huge step his jr season, decides to stay in school and has another great year and signs with wild, hometown team when he graduates

Like last year, there isnt all that much gap between the d-men in this draft from their draft year. Scouting is important but considering the position ultimately the success of that pick will come down to development cause as far as talent goes there isnt much to separate them.

Almost like how hs players have to play at least one year in college before going pro. I like that idea...obviously different sport but you get the general idea

college loophole is crazy and still wondering what is going on with Cal..i am on board for drafting leljegren or vallaimaki

or you know, he doesnt. its a risk you take but its not like every college draft pick from round 2-7 just decides to jump ship and sign with NYR or their home town team.

Avoiding them in the draft because of few guys do it is just cowardly.

other way around. you want them to give up something you have to offer them something otherwise really no incentive to change this rule

It was rumored that Murray did not have any answers for the questions Pegula had. No matter what job you have, if your performance goes down, and your boss asks why, you say "I Don't know, have patients" you are most likely fired on the spot.
GMTM made a lot of mistakes in drafting (the second round in 2014, cornell and karaback, horrible) and trading (bogo, gorges fashing+dlo), as has been said many times on this board, he had almost unlimited resources when it came to picks and prospects and a last place finish in the division is what it got him.

he creates a lot on his own and hes got the size. every player thats played with him has seen their regular and adv stats go up. i suppose biggest question would be speed but depending on the team if you put him in a sheltered role i dont see why he cant make the nhl right away.

I just don't see how it's even, and the nhlpa should step in at some point

then again I am shocked the nflpa didn't demand a second urine test on those 2 diluted samples

side note how can those players be dinged with a strike already when they are not nfl property?

I liked Murray's boldness, but how did he deserve another year?

He took a pile of assets and converted it into very little:

Overpaid for Kane
Overpaid for Lehner
Completely ripped off in the Fasching deal.
Lost on the Kuli/Pysyk deal
Turned: McNabb, Pysyk, Myers, Zadorov into very little return
Had 14 first and second round picks, trade half away, and the one's made, he picked only 1 defenseman.
Took Lemieux over Barbershev when the whole world knew better
Drafter Cornel and Karabacek when defensemen who were projected to be 1st round talent were still left on the board.
Hired (No, excuse me, paid a 3rd rounder for) Disco Dan who ruined Girgensons and stuck Samson on the wing for two straight years.
Could not sell Vesey on Buffalo after paying to talk to him.
Could not land Babcock after throwing the kitchen sink at him.
Signed Moulson to a ridiculous contract when it was pretty clear his best days were behind him.

How's this? Need more reasons?

I tend to agree. But I do think there will be a lot of pressure to find a Defenseman that will help us next year so I dont think its out of the question

There are so many unknowns with a new GM

He may hate alot of the players we already have/Drafted. Murray came in and moved out alot of regiers picks. He may not like Asplud or Baptiste, ect
