Who would they replace him with that would be that would bring more to the table? I can't think of anyone |

I think re-signing Treliving is the way to go. If not, I'd like to see the Flames try and pry Kyle Dubas from Toronto. |

Treliving is way to good of a negotiator for his signing to be finished so soon. I'm sure he wants max dollars, term and much more control. I'm confident he'll get signed, but it's going to take time.

The Hamilton trade showed how good a negotiator BT can be. But the one thing we don't know is what deals got away from him. For example, if the Flames tried ( or worse, passed up a chance) to get a player like Lucic (for example) I can just imagine Brian Burke watching the Ducks and totally believing that Calgary would have won the series if Lucic had been a Flame. It's things like this that we don't know but could make the difference. |

No way I would give Lucic the contract he has now. I'm sure that's what he was looking for and BT was smart to say thanks but no thanks.

Unfortunately BT has done a good job
If they let him go they're (frank)ing stupid. |

Agreed. That full NMC for 6 years on a player who's mileage was pretty high in the first place.
There's definitely some merit to what itwasin is saying though. And I'm sure most flames fans would be happy with that contract if it meant undoing the Brouwer contract.
Not me though. Go brouwer. |

Well, you will never see those deals from any GM, and I am sure he and Burke would have talked about any significant offseason acquisitions like Lucic, so unless BT somehow talked BB out of that signing, I can't see anything but a consensus decision.
Looking at that series, I didn't see a major issue with the Flames and physicality, but rather than a Lucic, as I went on and on about around the deadline, I would rather have seen (and would still like to see) the Flames pursue a cheaper contract and more effective player in Simmonds. Cost for a player like that is high, but we are not walking into a free agency period where quality power forward RW right hand shots are available.
The Flames got out-depthed vs Anaheim, and Kesler's unit did a great job of shutting the Flames down 5 on 5. |

The price would be a tough one to swallow.
Speaking of a tough price; the Carey Price rumours are swirling.
Get it done, BT. |

Sources? They would riot in Montreal. - Kevin R
TSN and Friedman mentioned rumblings if I'm not mistaken. I'll take a look at his 30 Thoughts again later today and touch back on that.
He's up for a new contract, so I'm sure said rumblings are just a part of being a star making a decision on his future soon. |

Yup, don't disagree, but that's the exact player we need right now, that was who the Flames hoped they were getting in Brouwer, so you're either overpaying in free agency, overpaying via trade or drafting and hoping. |

He would need to do some masterful cap juggling to do it.
It would be a game changer for the flames if he could pull it off.
But (frank) the flames! |

People are talking about virtually impossible long shots of Carey Price and Ilya Kovalchuk coming to the Flames and I say virtually impossible because I thought there was no way in hell Boston was going to trade Dougie Hamilton but somehow it happened.
Anyway, what about signing T.J. Oshie? |

How great would it be if we scooped up another RFA that wasn't going to re-sign.
Oshie would be great. Cap hit will be UFA levels though. |

Would you guys like a simmonds +hagg for Hamilton, I know that they wouldn't include proverov (spelling )? |

If you sign Oshie to what will probably be a 6 or 7 year by 7.0 mill per as a UFA, be prepared to lose Backlund. I would rather give up assets & get a RFA established winger.
Would anyone do Brodie for Drouin?

Would love to have Simmonds but top pairing Dmen are way tougher to find & develop. You guys should know that. I'll tell you, Leafs should try to figure out how to pry Lindholm or Vatanen out of Anaheim because they have so many nice young NHL ready top young blue liners it's sickening. |

I don't think we will like the price tag for any of the UFAs out there. Oshie is an okay scoring winger, but not really what we need. Alzner could be interesting for a dman, but he has had a down year and will likely demand around 6 million on a long term deal
Our best bet might be to try and grab some players from teams who could be vulnerable in the expansion draft. I think Tampa Bay is a team we should be talking to, they still stand to lose a very good player in the expansion draft.
Killorn and Namestnikov would be guys that I think Yzerman would listen on. It would be worth kicking the tires on guys like Palat, Kucherov and Drouin as well. Palat and Killorn would both fit very well with this team. Kucherov fits the RW need but I'd bet he's pretty much untouchable. |

Little early to judge BT's picks yet, but so far they are looking good. Kylington, Fox and Anderson (Fat Rass) show plenty of promise. Tyler Parsons looks like he could be a stud someday. Dube looks like he could be a good NHLer someday. Phillips and Mangiapane could end up being good stories.
Overall, BT has been a pretty competent GM. He deserves an extension. |
