Not to a young, rebuilding team that doesn't figure to be a true contender for at least a couple years. - eichiefs9
That's fair. Amd I won't assume the leafs strategy or their cap.
This is why I mentioned 'pure value alone'
Elite top pairing dman >> young top like scoring winger

Is the Larsson for Hall trade now looked upon as a good trade for EDM since they are still playing?
Not trying to be an a**, we just don't get much EDM updates where I live and I thought the trade was pretty much universally panned the last I remembered hearing. - wolphnuts12
Larsson doesn't have sexy numbers, asides from hits. He never will. In the role of shutdown dman he is criminally underrated. |

I'd do this for Braun. Not Vlasic. You are still undervaluing Vlasic. - WaterVsAnchor
You would, would ya?
No chance the Leafs blow two of their best trade chips for Justin (frank)ing Braun?
Dream on. |

I will be very impressed if Toronto can get a defender of that calibre period. No matter what they give up.
Very smart to trade one of thier young stars ASAP while value is high. Softmore slumps are real. |

Extenuating circumstances aside, I absolutely agree.
But age, contract status, cap situations, and a million other factors count also (as you know). In this particular instance I think it's much better asset management for the Leafs to keep Nylander rather than trade him for a 30 year old pending UFA (after next year, I know) who is likely to start declining in the not-too-distant future.
Plus, if the Sharks genuinely think they are still legitimate Cup contenders it makes way more sense for them to hang on to an established top-pairing defender than to add another weapon to an already-potent, albeit aging, offense. |

Got to think that having McDavid healthy for an entire season, and a really good year from Talbot got the Oilers to the playoffs.. |

Is this thread as offensive to you as it is to me?
Vlasic is the straw that stirs the drink for the Sharks. Losing him would slam their window shut.
Leafs fans: We get it. Nylander is really good. Still not enough of a reason to give up their chance at a cup in the next few years. This year was an injury riddled mess for them. They'll be back next year. - fry
I agree with you that Nylander is really good. What you are perhaps not considering is control. Vlasic has one (that's the digit that comes after zero) year of control left. He will get a contract for $6M plus for 5 years probably. Nylander has over 5 years of control left. He is twenty years old and the Flames passed on him to pick the barf bag that is Sam Bennet (26 points this year). Vlasic if he makes free agency will be a good pick up for a contender with lots of capspace (show me one) or a foolish GM.

You are underrating JVR and overrating Braun.
Come on...JVR and a 1st for Braun is laughable |
|
|
|
I just witnessed Vlasic limit Mcdavid to 4 pts in 6 games, and his only ES pt was an empty net goal. Vlasic is quietly one of the best dmen out there, and the kind of dman a team needs if they ever expect to seriously compete. You won't get him for some reduced price.
That being said, I dont think Toronto would be willing to move Nylander, and I certainly dont think the Sharks are looking to move Vlasic. It would make sense for the Leafs, but not for the Sharks. |

Adding several tough players to make sure that goon teams like the Flyers don't send a couple of AHL caliber players to take out McDavid didn't hurt either. Neither did showing the lazy boy chairs to the simpletons known as Craig McTavish and Kevin Lowe.

Obviously big factors, but anyone thinking that they were the only reason simply hasnt watched the team enough. Our blueline hasn't been this good in a very long time, and the forwards actually play 2 ways now. |

I don't think there's a fit between Sharks and the Leafs. Leafs don't have anything the Sharks want and the Leafs couldn't afford anything the Sharks have |

Not just facepunchers either. Toughness that can play effective minutes.

Then stop suggesting they trade their best defenseman for trade chips.
Any Sharks fan who's seen the Sharks play without Vlasic knows he's more important to winning than Burns is. Their record is dog sh!t without him. - fry
EXACTLY
Look at his last few play off series against top line players.
LA Kings:
Tyler Toffoli Regular Season: 31 Goals/82games
Playoffs: 0 Goals 1 Assist / 5 games
Nashville Predators:
Filip Forsberg Regular Season 33G 33 A 82 Games
Playoffs 0G 1A 7 Games
St Louis Blues
Tarasenko Regular Season: 40G 34A
Playoffs: 2 G 0 A 6 Games (2 Goals scored in last 2 minutes of Game 6)
Pittsburgh Penguins
Crosby 85 Pts
Playoffs: 4pts/6 Games
Edmonton Oilers
Mcdavid : 100pts
0 Even strength points (1 Goal EN)
Some of these trade proposals for one of the top shut down D-man in the NHL are embarrassingly bad. |

I don't think there is a team in the NHL that wants to take that contact...He is a solid d man but there is no point taking on that contract.
Hjalmarasson for JVR can be worked out with some other pieces going both ways.
