What is rather amusing to me, considering the amount of abuse that is heaped upon him, is that the perfect player to help the Leafs' blueline depth and development moving forward would be Andrew MacDonald. He is a legitimate 3rd pair who can play 2nd pair minutes. He has puck skills but should not be seen as the mover of a pair.
Everyone likes to laugh at his contract, but his actual on ice performance is better than what the Leafs were getting, and since they print their own money....

"Nylander could get it done...or we could be looking at a package including Kapanan.."

First - NOTHING gets out about the Leafs' plans, least of all to a rumour site.

Second - Even if Nylander was on the table, you could be damn sure that management would be after a bigger fish than just Vlasic. Think Johansen/Jones... No chance a 20 year old rookie who just put up 61 is dealt for a 30 year old D

Third - After what we've seen from Kapanen in his brief stint, you can bet that Lou, Shanny and Babs are excited about this kid and want to give him a longer look in order to know exactly what they have.

In summary, NONE of the above is happening.

IF Toronto and San Jose were talking we'd be looking more at a Vlasic (+?) for JvR (+?) type deal with whatever minor pieces needed from either side. Their ages and current contracts line up very well.

- As_I_See_It

I might suggest a blog which indicates which teams have surplus D or surplus F with respect to the expansion draft. San Jose cannot protect all of their D so someone
has to go. Toronto can't protect all of its forwards. I'm guessing the "match up" of a forward for a D is the basis of a trade like Eklund proposes. I'm not going to dream up a trade or suggest whats fair but there will be F for D trades coming for the sake of protection.

maybe?

Not trying to an a**, but the Sharks aren't trading a #1 Dman for a 2nd line winger. You trade a #1 something you get a #1 something back...prospect,center or whatever.
Think this is just click bait, and if there's any truth to moving Vlasic, the Sharks are going full rebuild and probably let Patty and Jumbo walk.

Seabrook would be a great trade pickup for the Leafs.

No thanks.

He has a brutal contact.

if the Leafs wanted to get an overpaid D man then sign Shattenkirk. A whole lot younger and better at his stage of his career

61 points as a rookie...yeah a little more than a 2nd line winger.

And let's not ignore that Nylander has double the amount of years of his career left

Vlasic is one of the best shutdown D in the league. JVR isn't even close to enough to get him.

With that said, I don't view the Sharks window as closed and I don't think the Sharks do either. Even with Marleau and Thornton on the wrong side of 35, the Sharks still have a prime Vlasic, Burns, Couture, and Pavelski. These players can be built around for a few more chances at a run. While I think Edmonton is a great team and will be a true threat for seasons to come, I don't think they are better than the Sharks are THIS YEAR. The Sharks released their injury list and it's pretty bad.. Thornton with a torn ACL/MCL, Couture with two face fractures, Hertl with a broken foot, Marleau with a broken thumb, Donskoi with a separated shoulder.. no wonder they couldn't hang.

Sharks will be right back in the fold next season with a retooled roster (Look at Ward, Boedker, Martin, etc. being the ones shipped out)

And Vlasic is going nowhere. Deboer doesn't use a shut down center against the likes McDavid, Kopitar and so on.....he uses a shut down d-man.
Vlasic is super important in this system. Some Leaf fans might see this as an overpayment, and Shark fans will see this as not enough.

I agree that there will D for F ahead of the expansion draft for the sake of protection and optimization, buuuuuuuut the Leafs don't need to protect Nylander or any of their rookie forwards. So with that in mind Ek's proposal of Nylander or Kapanen for Vlasic does not apply to what you're saying.

JVR? Yes.
Willy and/or Kap? No.

Wrong.

Leafs play in the NHL you see, therefore AMac would not meet our needs.
