Umm.. the last time the Leafs won a Cup there were 6 teams in the league. I'd say your odds were pretty good back then. That was also nearly 25 years BEFORE the Sharks even existed. I think when it's been 50 years since you've won anything any past wins become completely irrelevant. Sharks became a team in 1991, and they have been a better team than Toronto the majority of the time they've existed.
ANY Cup wins before the first expansion of the league are completely irrelevant at this point. If the Sharks were an original team they'd have a crap ton of Cups by now too. - WaterVsAnchor
Lots of ifs and buts here.
Sharks have won (frank) all since I've been alive and I've been alive for their whole existence. So if you multiply (frank) all by (Insert any number of years) you get (frank) all. So all we can really go on is if the Sharks had been an original six member they would've won (frank) all cups by now (in keeping with their actual record of (frank) all cups)

No, it was Ballard that was losing money. this was to happen after the Leafs traded away all their good players and before they drafted Clark.. Edmonton in the '80s were probably the most valuable team in the league
http://www.sportsnet.ca/h...y/nhl/oilers-leafs-trade/ - PatC80
Interesting article - but if you think about it , mostly hogwash. Harold Ballard was a cancer for the Leaf Franchise. Pocklington was also a cancer for the Oilers but he was lucky enough to get (and later sell for much needed cash) Gretzy, which was the greatest factor in Oilers winning four of their five cups. To intimate that Ballard was poor or broke is erroneous. Ballard basically destroyed the Leaf franchise in 1968 when he allowed Imlach to make the worst trade in Leaf history.
Namely Mahovlich,Unger,Stemkowski and the rights to Carl Brewer for Norm Ulman, Paul Henderson, Floyd Smith and Doug Barrie. In essence the four best players in the trade went to Detroit. He also treated Dave Keon voted the greatest Leaf all-time like sh!t and he went to the WHA. He was a rich piece of sh!t , tax evading scoundrel. His son Bill set up Concert Productions International. The guy who made ticket scalping and collecting those obscene extra concert fees possible. The second worst trade the Leafs made was getting Tom Kurvers (a 3rd pairing d-man) for the second overall pick which turned out to be Scott Niedermeyer. |

Oh, I see what you are doing its like you're comparing when the Canucks signed a 40 year old Mathieu Schneider,
Or like when they gave a 36 year old Mark Messier $18 million dollars. That one went really well right? |

it was a great post! Obviously you enjoy talking hockey and not one of the kid (punk)trolls! That I can appreciate! - MR.Hunter
Thanks very much! I do like talking hockey and unfortunately this board can be ruthless. A lot of people who just want to tell you you're wrong and attempt to make you look dumb.
For the records, I was hoping for a Leafs/Pens match-up and not because I think they would be easier. Wanted something different and thought Matthews vs. Crosby would have been a great storyline after Matthews vs. Ovie. Next year... |

Gauthier/Boyle
We havw a plethora of young talent on the wings where we can afford to trade JvR. We don't have the centre depth to trade Bozak. - PatC80
I agree. You don't want to lose that strength down the middle. I was just saying at the worst case scenario giving him up to upgrade your d.
JVR is the ideal person to move. |

Leafs would have too add imo, or take another contract back, and no not brown! Lol - MR.Hunter
Why do you think they'd need to take back another contract? JVR is exactly what a team like LAK is missing. |

Meh the slightly more offensive Finnish Darren Helm isn't worth the best defensive defenseman in the league. But sure, over value a 3rd line ceiling player. |

I think Del Zotto is a very underrated player. He went through a lot of growing pains but has really balanced out his game and has been very consistent. |

he's a good player, but still probably doesn't hit 40 points next year, unless he's on Matthews wing.
Anyone saying they wouldn't trade him for Vlasic is out to lunch. |

It was only a first step - but mostly a positive one. I think the Pens will play the Ducks in the final. Leafs have more than just Matthews though, Brown a sixth round pick scored 20 goals this year as a rookie. Would have been the best rookie on a number of teams. I'm hoping the Pens crush the Caps. Ovechkin is an excellent hockey player, and loves to dole out the hits, but if you hit him with a clean hit, he will roll around on the ice like a soccer player and hope for a major penalty. Good player yes, not a microgram of class - for sure. |

I would say you are in the second era of a rebuild. Wouldn't call it year 1. - fry
It's not year one, but it's been about 2 years since they finally gave up completely. Brought in new management, gave Phaneuf really cushy ice time, to fool someone else into taking him. Traded Kessel for futures. Sent out a bunch of players in the TDL before that summer, so maybe 2 1/2 years.
year 1 is BS, but people chirping 10 year rebuild are pretty stupid. |

What’s funny here is that the original kessel (21 year old star in the making) trade of kaberle (31 year old dman) for kessel didn’t work because Chiarelli and burke couldn’t agree on value.
Burke wanted kessel and a Boston’s 2010 1st for kaberle
Chiarelli wanted kessel and boston’s 2010 1st for kaberle and the 7th overall in 2009
I imagine if the leafs and sharks even were talking about a nylander for vlasic swap, they’d end up in the same place. It's a near impossible to equal out imo. - Tumbleweed
Agree, single player swaps are hard - this proposal makes about as much sense as Ek's playoff predictions. The only ones correct to date are the ones he made after the games were played. |
