Hey man, by all means keep Vlasic... He'll be 32yrs old in the first year of his 6-8 year extension for $6.5-$7M per!
No way the league's best shutdown D signs for anything less... Unless he walks for nothing next summer. - As_I_See_It
I'm not a Doug Wilson btw. |

Agreed, but:
A. What would it take for Vatanen alone?
B. What would it take for Vatanen plus either Theodore or Manson?
Why not try to knock it out in one trade? - As_I_See_It
JVR straight up and a if they buy out Beiksa it would fix their expansion problems.
Sign Shipachev to a one year deal to replace JVR.
sign Kulikov, MDZ or Stone...if they are too rich for the Leafs liking then sign Franson to a one year deal and keep looking to fix the bottom pairing. Either way one of Dermott/Nielson/2017 1st rounder should be able to crack the team in a few years.
They could also find a way to package Kap for a D man but that is too hard to predict so (frank) that
They need to stick to the type of team they are building. If they want more of a typical shutdown D go after Hjamralson over Vatanen.
This is all that I would HOPE for to happen so no one yell at me
but I do think its realistic |

They have an amazing D core when healthy...You guys rae lucky they are dinged up. - Santo_44
Yeah. Although we did beat them when those guys were healthy this year. |

I dont really disagree. I dont think this deal makes any sense for either side, and neither Wilson or Shanahan are fools.
Going forward though, a Vlasic type dman is something the Leafs definitely want. I suspect they would probably rather a younger and more raw version to develop along with the youngsters. Although, one should not underestimate the value of a vet to teach, especially on the blueline. - TheTaoOfSemenko
Yes, they definitely DO need a Vlasic type Dman. It makes them a true contender, IMO.
But if they really want to be a sustainable, long term contender, they shouldn't be blowing their load at the first opportunity to land one, at the highest price.
If the price is Nylander, I'd be personally waiting on a better price (and not necessarily JUST Vlasic).
If it doesn't get Vlasic at this point in time (I'm not going to waste my time arguing that it does), so be it. It may at some point this year, depending on circumstances, and he may be available next summer, for nothing but cap space. Maybe not. But I'm waiting this one out for a better price. |

This is all rational and accurate.
I like you better in Vancouver threads or the Sens vs. Leafs one. |

JVR for Vatanen
I think it is fair. Maybe there is some salary retained or some other pieces here and there but give or take that is the main piece going back each way.
It really sucks that the Ducks have to trade some defense...I don't like the expansion |

capfriendly:
A player can only be bought out after clearing unconditional waivers. A waiver-claim by another team pre-empts the buyout process. If a player has a no-movement clause, the player can reject the option of waivers and proceed to the buyout process.
i think beiksa will be bought out or agrees to waiving for the draft. |

Vatanen is a real option though. Vats for Bracco, Kapanen and a 2nd perhaps? |

Way to try to make it personal. Aren't you responding to a person saying the only butthurt person is me? - fry
There's nothing personal about any of my comments. You are flying off the handle at Leaf fans - without reason, making insulting generalizations about laughable comments. Give yourself a big shake, Leafs unloaded a bunch of older, overpaid players - they had three of the top five rookies this year. They have drafted well under the current management team. They basically pissed blood to get young and skilled, not likely that this plan will change. Sorry you are so envious of this, it is understandable with the Oilers being such a close rival and likely to win much more than the Flames moving forward. |

This is why you shouldn't spend years trolling another fan base. Eventually the tables will turn, and you haven't won a cup and aren't even on a course yet.
Now you are whining about high horses... what a (frank)ing joke.

Nobody does.
The upside is that the expansion team is typically utter dogpoop for a few years and easy points. |

WHY?
It's teams like the Leafs that can leverage and exploit other teams in tough situations leading up to the expansion draft. This is a huge opportunity for well positioned teams. Who gives a poop about the Ducks' problems? Bend them over if you can. |

I seriously doubt he is a Leafs fan.
You are a (frank)ing idiot if you believe Vlasic is worth Nylander to a team in the Leafs position, or any other team for that matter.
Vlasic was the flavour of the month a couple years ago. Now he is just a good, stay at home D. I don't care what Chiarelli thinks is a good trade. |

If it can be done without trading JVR than that would be awesome.
I think that trade is fair. It sucks losing Kapanen but There is a lot of young forward depth on the wing on the marlies that deserve chances.
JVR would make the Ducks better next year but the package makes them better in the long run. I guess it depends on if they win the cup or not this year |
