And I'm not suggesting he should. I'm fine with the way he's building the D.

It wasn't about adding UFA defenseman, it was about the contradiction you made.

All factors have to be considered. You have making the playoffs next season at the top of the list. I don't think Hextall does. 5 years is a long time in hockey. Those 5 years can be best used injecting youth and skill into the lineup. It's a no brainer.

For the short term, yes, it is at the top of the list. It is a realistic goal for this team with the right moves made this off season. You're not suggesting they use Carter Hall as the $1 goalie next year, are you?

Here is the difference as far as the goaltending situation is concerned. The Flyers don't have a young goaltender that is ready to step into the NHL as a starter.

Toronto and Edmonton will be winning all the cups then and we'll be the 80s Flyers just never having quite enough talent or luck to get past the Isles and Oilers.

Then I'll be dead.

- mayorofangrytown

This is only acceptable if the Flyers are guaranteed to win the Cup the year after you die.

Then they have to go get a guy because Neuvirth isn't going to start 80 games and Stolarz is not going to be ready after surgery.

You stated that you factored in and used Hextall's statements in his presser, to formulate your opinion. You then later stated that Hextall isn't going to volunteer anything in an interview.

That is exactly why it would be acceptable for the Flyers to sign a UFA goaltender in the right deal. That player would not be blocking a young player.

In press conferences, the press asks questions, the person holding the conference answers them. That's the way they work.

Isn't that also how an interview works? Questions asked, person being interviewed answers the questions

Wonder if Vorobyov could one day play a similar role as Couturier.

It's very simple. You ask Hextall a specific question, he will answer it. If you don't ask him a specific question, he won't volunteer every aspect of what he has planned for the off season.

Okay so in a press conference because he is being asked a specific question, he will volunteer useful information. However in an interview, he will not! I see.

Now you're reaching. A press conference is just a more inclusive form of interview. No contradiction. Stick to hockey.

The contradiction you made does not involve the difference between a press conference and an interview. That's irrelevant.
