You have to ask the tough question do you want Cal Foote for the next 12 years or Chris Tanev for 7 ?

To me the answer is easy

You can't draft Foote in the top five though, he's not the BPA so it'd be silly to take him there. The team needs skill.

Plus it's been said in his scouting reports he's nothing like his dad in terms of physicality or toughness but rather a really good shutdown dman who found some offence this year.

That's what I've read anyway.

If you trade Tanev for a first round pick you use that to get Foote.

That repoert is BS. He has been scouted by everyone and they agree he is going to be a good NHL Dman

Oh it says he's going to be a good solid NHL'er for a long time but he's not as mean as his dad. Still can be physical but he's more of a safe pick than any highend kid, which is what the Canucks need. Love to have this kid but his reports remind me of Bryan Allen with a bit more offence.

But yes, trading Tanev should get you a first round pick....I would think.

-----------------------------------------------

"The 6-3, 213-pound son of former NHL defenseman Adam Foote probably won't be the physical presence his father was, but plays all situations and uses his smarts, reach and strength to contain his opponent and gain position."

"Two-way defenseman with high hockey IQ in all three zones. Almost never out of position on a play."

"Rock solid. Defensively shuts down the rush extremely well w/good positioning & active stick."

Tanev and Edler are easy to get rid of.

I agree Tanev is - the other four are about as moveable as the titanic

Its not so much a pom pom crowd, its a WHO THE FAWK ELSE ARE THEY GONNA HIRE and WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES IT MAKE?

By Babcock comparison you mean every single coach in the history of sports??

Here's a better question Marwood, Who would you suggest they hire, why and how is it gonna make this piss poor team any better?

Please don't answer with emojis....

I would have been happy with Gallant, Kreuger or Dineen.
I also would have interviewed at least one candidate.
You might want to calm done a little bit the day is just starting.

They do have a lot of cap space moving forward so that could help to add pieces
- Redmile247

Perspective is a funny thing. On one hand canuck fans start to panic because cap space means they are not able to sign their current players. Some canuck fans take it very personality, almost like a snub.

Other fan bases find cap space a real positive.

There seems to be at least 10 top players for 2018 draft if the u18 is any indication. That does not include any kids who may still be playing. We should get a nice player next year.

It's pretty simple: all the best teams in the league need cap relief, having makes for more trade options. Hopefully JB is done with ufa guys outside of sign and trade at TDL

At the end of the day it just has to be someone who's willing to teach kids and be patient with them, something WD wasn't because his number one objective was to win. Not saying Green won't want to win, but it won’t be the best all end all with him, my opinion.

The teams is in the beginning stages of rebuilding, when they're ready to compete in five years there'll be a new coach in place anyways.

I think my (and possibly others) issue with the coaching hire, is not the coach they hired but the process surrounding it:

The firing felt like a reaction to outside forces/media, as reports from Burrows/Hansen post-trade and Horvat all indicated the players all supported and believed in Willie heading into a mean-nothing season.

The replacement search seemed hokey from the beginning by not cleaning out the entire staff. Either fire everyone or just fire Willie and let the replacement decide the fate of the remaining staff...

Reports came out that Green would not coach AHL next year, he'd be NHL or Europe (on top of previous reports that said he would not take an NHL assistant job)

We didnt see any reports of requesting permission to talk to any other experienced coaches that were recently fired

There was also no reports of the Canucks having any interest in any other candidates, including some top assistants (except for the longshot of asking an EPL President to come coach)

I dont hate the hire, it will probably be decent to watch, and I definitely know the Canucks probably do not have the luxury of picking whichever candidate they want given their current situation. It just continues to be a puzzling series of decisions by the management/owner group running the team that is leaving a poor taste in my mouth

I don't think Green has developed anyone other than Sven.
They hired another AHL coach with zero NHL coaching experience.
They did not interview one other candidate.
It was a PR reaction to Tryamkin bailing.

Green only had Sven for 15 games.
