Well, that fight has already been fought in other sports and there is no more fight. If you don't have an analytics arm of your front office, regardless of sport, you're going to get dusted.
The problem comes from what to do with the data once you have it and what it means. - johndewar
I agree, calling it a branding problem is ridiculous.

Not to be mean to Chayka, because he's about as close as it gets in the insular hockey world, but no, not in the sense that I meant. He is a young guy, with some background in stats and playing junior hockey, who worked for a data collection firm. When you say "analytics guy" -- I mean anyone can be that with some interest and experience and a connection. It's not a slight, they could use more guys like him and being a good GM goes a lot further than that. But hockey isn't exactly on the cutting edge with this stuff.....the Flyers chief analytics guy just did a 1 year online degree program before being hired. And who the hell knows if they even listen to him.
Chayka has a background in data collection and he is clearly open to and invested in it. But PSG was talking about the real nerds, I think. The guys who could go work for top financial firms or who have PhD in statistics and whatnot. Guys who could be at the forefront of other fields. You don't see Hinkie types in hockey. - Mononoke
Chayka has more than just a background in stats. He developed and founded Stathletes, which is a company that does more than just track stats using data from games. They actually break down each game with video and track their own data. I wouldn't want a Phd nerd. I want a hockey guy who knows and understands data and analytics.

Wonder if they are just now realizing how bad Dustin Brown is too - YuenglingJagr
Nah -- they knew. One of the reasons they stripped him of the captaincy. He played a bit better this season, but he finished last year on the third and fourth lines |

HA! I was just thinking about him today thinking it might get done after April 30th since that's when his KHL deal expires.....no need to wait I guess. Hopefully he can get on the red eye in time to watch the phantoms get swept |

Any player 25 or older with at least three professional seasons who has not played in at least 80 NHL games (28 for goalies) becomes a UFA at the end of his contract. For this part, the definition of a professional season is pretty lenient. 11 games for 18-19 year olds and just one game played anywhere professionally counts for anybody over 20. It's nearly an unnecessary definition, since a guy with that much experience who is obviously not that wanted by the team isn't likely to draw the kind of salary which would bring draft pick compensation in, but it's a nice bit of a catch-all just to keep teams from being Richards to people like that. |

Not IRL! (frank)ing Eva Mendes......
But yes his character Sebastian is available. I had promised it to Toby Flenderson, but just between us, he is no Sebastian. I should tell you now though: I already am playing the Emma Stone role. I don't want to make things awkward. - Mononoke
