I remember how frustrating the Rangers first game vs Ottawa was this year. Their 1-3-1 completely stifled the Rangers offense and gave a blueprint to other teams as to how to slow them down. Hopefully the coaching staff is hard at work showing players film and pointing out what to look for as they come up ice and what their options are to get through and gain entry into the offensive zone with control of the puck.
If that means softly flipping the puck into #65's corner all series long and punishing him / beating him into submission, then so be it, but they have to learn how to take what is available and not try to force things. - MiloslavHorava
im not so worried about the 1-3-1 in the playoffs. NYR isnt scoring pretty goals off the rush anymore in the PO's.. they are going to the net and working hard for their bounces.
Agreed on keying on EK65 this series. Put a pounding on that foot.

It's what they started doing in Game 4 and what they did to Mike Green years ago. EK65 has great wheels, so need to be smart about how they play. Mix it up.
I just don't quite understand that thinking. No matter what the format if the Pens/Caps are truly the best teams they would have had to meet at sometime before one of them gets to go to the SCF.
Personally, I don't think much of the Caps. Look at all their early exits after a fantastic regular season. - mdw7413
Hopefully NY advances and more than happy if they are a decided undergo. No style points if you win and the road you took to get there.

Remember it well... They punished him to the point he would shy away from getting the puck first, and would let the Rangers get it first then try to hit them instead... unfortunately its what I see Staal doing more often since his conussions

I can't wait to watch pheanuef get completely out of position trying to put guys into the left field bleachers causing a two on one goal against. Ohhh it's gonna be lovely

Oh yeah, A nicely placed shot from the point should cause him some debilitating pain. Lots of time to score goals after that!!
From Ryan Wilson's blog, last paragraph. This is the view from probably 99.9% of the people. Hope the Rangers get a chance to wreck that thought process:
"I'm not budging from my Capitals prediction. I believe the loss of Kris Letang will be felt a lot more in this series than it was against Columbus. I see the Capitals beating the Penguins and then cruising through whatever team they face in the Eastern Conference Finals."
