It would be too much, if the defenseman market wasn't so bad.
I have a feeling if the Leafs can't turn over JVR for a decent Dman, we may see them actually not do too much this off season. - Aetherial
I’d still look at moving jvr if we could do a deal for tanev.
I feel like the likely trade is jvr for picks/prospects.

Just wanted to say congrats to the Leafs and to Leafs Nation for a good season and playoffs. Your team is on the right track. Maybe win a couple of playoff rounds next season and then after that... Who knows? The sky is the limit. I'm happy for you guys. So many years of suffering and now the future looks very bright. |

People trying to trade kids off this team need to stop. Kapanen for a Dman wont happen unless they're both at the same level, in years, salary and potential. Even then, there's easier trades to be made.
You forget JVR is coming off a 4.5 mil deal and will command 6-7 mil/yr, and there's little chance Toronto can afford that contract after having to renew Matthews and Marner.
Kapanen will fill in the gap left over by JvR once he moves on, and he'll make an excellent 2nd line player who can shift up to the 1st, with a few years under his belt.
On the rare chance JvR signs here for 6 mil/yr, then you might be able to discuss Kapanen or Brown moving on. As it currently stands, those 2 are almost assured not to be moved just on their cheap contracts alone.
They both are 50 point players on a 2nd line, at the start of their development, Brown a bit less so. Dare I say, Kapanen has better hands, but its arguable.
Bozak I would be shocked if he gets traded. He's defensively responsible and clutch on faceoffs. I'd only see him moved if Boyle is retained.
On that note, I do hope we can keep Boyle as he's an a great mix of character, skill and size, for the younger guys to look up to.
Should be a fun off season.

(frank) that. The guy's never played a full season in his NHL career. |

Leafs can easily get a good top4 d-man this offseason.
Some teams (Ana, Wpg) in expansion draft troubles.
As well, Leafs can trade for a player that LV has traded for.
e.g. LV trades for D-man X.
Leafs trade JVR to LV for that D-man.
(LV can't trade players they took in expansion draft, but they can make additional drafts).
I think it's going to be a crazy off-season. - MaximusAurelius
The problem is that there are all kinds of teams saying the exact same thing as us....."Now we just need to grab a top 4 D!"....and nobody is giving those away on the cheap. Buffalo, Chicago, Montreal, Florida, Toronto, Detroit, New Jersey....the list goes on.
I agree JVR is the ticket to quickly gaining that top D....just hope we do not trade him AND the moon for whoever that D is. |

can only have so many players on your team.
leipsic, soshnikov and some other guys better to trade them then to hold on to them / play them in AHL.
not like Leafs have team full of veterans ready to retire.
JVR, Gardiner I hope gone this off-season. |

That doesn't surprise me. It reminded me of the 2014 Olympics. I had the Canada game recorded and went out to grab a new filter for my furnace because it shut off and was -30 that morning and people were blurting out the score of the game.
Last night same thing. Had the game recording as I was coming home from the in-laws and had to get gas and people were talking about the game and the score. It's crazy. |

One of the better discussions guys. Keep 'er rollin'. Since our roster spots are precious given the talent that's available as well as the players we may need to add, what to do with Martin. Too early to move him as far protecting the kids or is the time now? I feel his lack of foot speed hurt the 4th line against the Caps. |

I agree. I thought he would be a better playoff player than regular season. Didn’t see it.
Expansion draft fodder is best hope for him.

That and I was worried he was going to take a couple uncalled for penalties. |
