Sounds about right -Johansson, asplund and oloffson..

Edit: Nylander could maybe fall in the category too

- MCGUIZZY

I thought he took Possler as well. I'm thinking this stat may be wrong.

If that's the case with Nylander to me it's a no brainer.

Part of the Leafs success this year was because those guys got used to playing in the AHL together.

Getting Rochester successful is priority one, if you can consistently do that well it bodes well for the big club.

No shortcuts this time.

- gcomella34

Absolutely. The last time we had a good team, they all cam up through Rochester together: Miller, Roy, Goose, Vanek, Pommer....

Plus Nylander, Nyburg & Glotov just last year
No one from 2015
In 2014, Karabacek is a Euro who was playing in Juniors if I remember right

- jdfitz77

i think the tweet was referring to players based out of europe not necessarily just of euro descent so ill leave karabacek out.

so asplund, nylander, nyberg, glotov, johansson and olofsson.

wonder why the tweet said 3/25, maybe they meant first two years or something. regardless wish we had taken a few more early on.

Well, he had 14 first and second round picks and took one defenseman, so that sounds about right.
- sskkoo1

Don't get me started on that!
Hahaha

In fairness...
I liked GMTMs 2015 & 2016 draft,
It was just the 2014 one that p!ssed me off

And if Borgen & Fitzgerald work out,
then it doesn't look so bad the way he ignored defense early
But I do wish he'd spent more picks on that position

Teams like Carolina, Minny, Anaheim, etc have all these good up & coming young defensemen Bc they keep picking them early
It's not a complicated strategy

This is the tweet by the way. he might just mean skater based in and staying in europe. or perhaps overlooked someone like nyberg because he came and played in the ushl

Well maybe he meant players that are playing in Europe currently?

Nyberg and Glotav were both stated to play in either Canadian juniors or USHL the years following their draft year.

I like picking Euros in round 3 and later
For whatever reason, I feel like there's more sleepers that come from Europe than N.America in those later rounds
Maybe Bc they just don't get scouted as much?

I see that, thanks. I thought he was the guy that Murray drafted in the late rounds and when asked about why he drafted him he said he was there.

I remember thinking, uhhhh, anything else you'd like to add?

I don't have a problem of who he picked in 2015, I have a problem with him spending 2 first rounders and 2 second rounders between the Eichel-Guhle picks.

There was a lot of hype about Possler early on, then there was a rumor that he didn't want to come to N.America, but now there's talk of him being signed this summer, so... who the heck knows with this guy.

np, i just think its about what their goal is next year. Maybe Nylander puts in a lot of work in the off season and fits in right away. if the goal is playoffs, ice the best team possible.

If its sort of a bridge/developmental year id let him work things out in rochester and get the following 3 years of top 6 production for basically nothing.

- Sabresfan-365

It would be nice to get the extra year on the cheap,
But all I'm really concerned about is what's best for his development

Even if Nylander is here next year,
Idk if putting him on Jack's wing right away is the best idea
He'll have a lot of expectations to live up to once they're on a line together

I think he was one of the leading scorers in the Swedish league the year after we picked him, but then got hurt & missed time
I think he's been pretty average since...
which is probably why we haven't heard much from him

Thats part of it. ive always wondered if it has to do with how young players are coached there. More emphasis placed on skill, whereas a lot of times you hear about players in juniors working on removing "bad habits". Development vs refinement i guess.

I wish the McNabb + two 2nds for Fasching never happened
Hopefully Fasching will work out though
Or like I've said before,
maybe we can use him as a trade piece to get a defenseman?

Where did you see that? I mean the timeline would make sense. But Even if he wanted to come here, I would think the new GM would want to evaluate that. Possler has yet to show his face in North america

since i linked urbaks tweet i scrolled through and saw two things of note.

Mittelstadt, who ive been a huge fan of, may be a miss at #6. Apparently 63% of his production is coming via the powerplay.

Erik Brannstrom is scoring at a pace similar to Erik Karlsson did in the SHL. most of the scouting reports generally consider him a high offence, puck moving guy.

Murray took 2 defensemen in Mcnabb and Pysyk that we spend years developing and traded them just as they were going to break into the NHL. Not saying these guys are stars but still

If you're referring to talk of him willing to come here, there was an article online a few months ago (may have been SBnation) that was discussing players we need to sign this summer or we lose their rights. He was one of them, and the article suggested Murray was in discussions with his agent on getting him signed.

Hmm missed that one. I have seen a recent article about Oloffson and Asplund. Sounds like Asplund is staying another year though.

I hated the Pysyk trade as well. A lot of people like to include Asplund in that trade, but he really was not a part of it. We trade pick #38 and a 3rd rounder that draft to move up five spots to #33. It was a trade all by itself. Pysyk for Kuli was a separate deal, and a bad one regardless of Kuli's injury.

I didnt hate the trade at first but I knew it was pretty risky. Sure looks bad now

Asplund looks like an ok player but we likely wont see him in uniform until 2018-2019 at the earliest..

Pysyk is solid, not flash, but a guy every team can use to stabilize the back-end. We put 5 years into him, he had a good cap hit, and just when he was ready to be a full-time Sabre we dump him for a guy with one year left on his deal.
