Von Dudensteins, hate to break it to you, but the list of 2nd overall picks probably stemmed from an article Hamster posted to WGR a couple days ago. The purpose of the article was to show how Reinhart has underwhelmed through his first 82 when compared to every other 2nd overall pick since 97. Only Legwand was worse. Also, Hamster talked of how much more arrogant Samsonite came off in interviews and how he really didn't attend the O'Reilly practices until later in the year. Leads me to believe he was the player Jack was directing his happy to be in the NHL comment at. FYI, Yeeeeeeichel was on that list and was in good company.

Really really hope the Bills don't trade up to take Trubisky. Nervous they do it. Seems like a Billsy thing to do. Like here you go Bills fans, we did it! We finally gave up the farm and 40 for the future of the franchise and didn't want to make you wait another year to draft one of the QB's everyone in the world considers a can't miss. Please be a smoke screen.

There's not a QB I'd take in the 1st round this year. They all have huge questions.

If you're not picking Top-10, you never take a QB in the first round, IMO. There was maybe one Draft, EVER, where the QB depth was astounding and that was the 1983 draft.

At most you have 2 or 3 guys worthy of a 1st round pick and they're usually gone by pick-10 unless you're lucky like the Bills and somehow EJ Manuel or JP Losman fall to you.

Im not saying it wouldnt hurt them, its just not a situation dire enough that boston would walk away.

youd have to look at a scenario like Brandon Saad. Chicago had literally no shot at signing him or matching an offer sheet so CBJ got him for picks.

CBJ got Saad for picks? That's news to me.

They got him for literal trash, lol and a 4th is possibly the best part of the deal for Chicago.

They said the Jackets may be in trouble cap wise to resign certain players.

Well, they need to get rid of Hartnell. 2 years left and a NMC. Hopefully for them Vegas grabs him.

But they have 7 million free right now and Johnson is off the books following next season, that's a good 5 right there. Bobrovsky signed through 2019 I think. Jenner had a down year, he shouldn't cost too much.

Biggest problem is Dubinsky, holy poop that's an albatross contract. Foligno is their captain and he's gonna be there for a while.

They don't have to worry for another year at least.

Honestly, everyone knew Ekblad was going first that year. And I don't follow prospects much. But everything that draft pointed to not taking a wimp who couldn't do a pull-up (shoulder injury or not) and not taking another Reinhart protege'.

From a purely objective standpoint, I would have taken Draisaitl 4/5 times simply because he looked more NHL ready from a physique stand-point. Reinhart and Bennet were both wimpy then and are both wimpy now. Draisaitl, to me, seemed more of a Tim Murray type, too, based off of everything he had said about the TYPE of player/team he liked.

This isn't hindsight, I was not happy with Tim Murray's telegraphed selection. I honestly wanted Ekblad that draft but we all knew it was out of the question, so IMO, we either should have traded down or skipped over the Sams.

LOL ..........priceless. The consensus 2nd pick was either of the two Sam's .... period. There was not an NHL team that would have taken Leon at that spot ...... none !

Just stop.

Dano was thought of very highly at the time of the trade and Anisimov is anything but trash, but ok...

I missed Gerbe being a Richard and picking up Murray. I was going for Bernier. Probably the guy with the worst goalie in front of him left. He's already played once in the playoffs due to poor play.

You do realize that Draisaitl went BEFORE Bennett, right?

So how in god's name was the "consensus" top 2 Bennett and Reinhart if one of them went 4th?

If the Sabres and Murray had that same "consensus" then they were dumber than I thought. But most have said they were very high on Leon and it was a tough decision

Don't know why so many people dwell on the past. It does not help or change anything with all the coulda, shoulda, woulda. Just looked back at about 10 different mock drafts and about 7 of them had the top 3 picks exactly the same results that actually happened. The others had Bennett going first, Buffalo taking Reinhart or Draisaitl and Ekblad dropping to 3rd (one actually had Draisaitl dropping to 6 behind DalColle and Kapanen). You what all this means? Absolutely nothing. Quit looking at the past and look towards the future and you may actually be able to enjoy life.

reinhart was clear cut number 2 pick for this team

draisaitl was clear cut number 3 pick in that draft

if the sabres passed on reinhart, at the time gmtm would have received the sonny weaver jr treatment for drafting vonte over bo
