I successfully called 7 of the first round series. That was the good news.

The bad news is that the only team I got wrong....the Hawks.....was the team I picked to represent the West in the finals.

My final four picks were Rangers vs. Pittsburgh, and Edmonton vs. Chicago.

Pitt wins the Cup over Chicago.

I am not so confident in that pick with MAF in nets for Pitt.

I predicted the Rangers to beat MTL, but I don't think they can take down OTT. I said this in another thread: Rangers are the better team, but OTT is playing better hockey right now. Their system will suffocate the Rangers.

Yes. I believe he picked them to win it in 1940. Buzztron had them favoured over the Leafs. It's a good thing the Nazis didn't gain control of the Buzztron. The world would be much different. When Churchill asked Ek if he could borrow the Buzztron to fight the Nazis, Ek told him that he would never ever surrender it.

Maybe, but can they counter & score on Lundqvist with how he is playing?

Maybe. This is just what I think. I think it will be a very low-scoring series, which is no revelation. IMO the main issue is that Rangers have had issues scoring in the latter half of the season and that will be the edge given to OTT.

For the East I picked: Pens, Caps, Rangers and Boston
For the West I picked: Wild, Oilers, Preds and Flames

Missed two series, not too bad.

My prediction for the next: Caps, Sens, Ducks and Preds.

second round picks

Nashville vs St louis. this will be a nasty battle. and a close series. in the end I think Jake Allen has some more in the tank and the blues pull it out in 6.

Edmonton vs Anaheim. i think this series will feature a tonne of high scoring games. 7 or 8 goals between the two teams every game. Anaheim will pull through, 7 games. mcdacid will score enough in this series to leave him in the top 10 for scoring when the playoffs are over.

ottawa vs NYR. this will be a cakewalk for the rangers. ottawa was fortunate to face a Boston team missing everyone but chara from their top 2 pairings. I'm guessing 4 or 5 games, Ottawa will collectively score 6 or less goals in the entire series, and the Rangers get a long rest before playing the Caps.

Caps vs Pens. the Leafs scared them. they're not joking around anymore. I think if letang was healthy this is a 6 game series in favour of the pens. but without I think it's the caps in 7.

Thank you. I have too much time on my hands these days. My team isn't in the playoffs. This hasn't happened since I began high school. I really don't know what to do. It's just not the same watching other teams in the playoffs. Maybe I should start a blog though no one would read it. Well I can always write about how the Buzztron predicted the Miracle on Ice as well as the Flames eliminating the Oilers in 86. Steve Smith oh where art thou?

i tried making predictions based upon statistics. Did horribly 2 years ago so I've ditched the matchups and numbers and focused on what's "on the ice". I came up with a formula based on six factors, five of which are analytical

1- Game Style
what style of play does the team utilize. What is the style of their opposition. Who better exploit the other with their own system. If necessary who can adapt and use the opponent's system against them.

2- Dependency
Which team can more easily roll 12 forwards and 6 defenceman. Which team is more dependant upon certain players.

3- Team Make-Up
Has the roster changed in any significant way. Which players who played significant roles in prior years are missing. Who's on the shelf (i.e. injured) short and long term. Which team has the right balance of youth and experience. Which team has players in different roles who, when playing together can complement each other.

4- Production/On Ice Play
Which team has a more balanced scoring potential and which relies on a few guys. Can the defence be a factor offensively. What is the player's mobility especially amongst defenceman. Which goalie may be required to steal more games.

5-The Kryptonite Factor
Does the opposition give the team a hard battle. The idea of the "uncomfortable opponent." Someone you don't play well against or play as well as you would compared to others. Which opponent is easier, which gives the team the hardest battle and which is the kryptonite

6-Gut Feeling.
This one is a wildcard compared to the rest but can be used to skew the more likely outcome should be it omitted. Forget the numbers, forget past results, just go with your gut. Don't use this to overshadow everything else but if it doesn't does shift the formula when using the other five alone consider it (I've used this one with past models so its not exactly a new one)

Not every system is perfect but I got 6 out of 8 using mine in the first round. I got the number of games in 3 of 8.

any questions ??

I think that having nothing to play for the last month or more and playing against teams jockeying for position or playoff birth had a lot to do with that

Yea, any Sens fan taking solace in their season series win, 1st off, Montreal was 3-0 vs the Rangers this yr & how did that work out for them? And that last reg season game we played Ottawa we rested 6 guys, it was our B squad & they won 3-1. Big whoop. I don't want to hear it, its gonna be a close series but Rangers are gonna take this in 6, just like the 1st round.
