Well if we acquired his rights he wouldn't have a choice. I'd pay extra if we were allowed to speak with his agent and gauge his interest first, rather than just trade something and hope he would come here knowing he had to play for us.
Just because he went elsewhere the first time around doesn't mean things aren't different now. - eichiefs9
I'd rather go in a different direction only bc of "age" and "russian" factor |

I'd happily take the risk if he signed for 2-3 years. Anyone who gives him a long-term deal is out of their minds. He checks off two major boxes, RW for Tavares & PP help, that are currently unchecked. It allows the young guys to take the time to develop without keeping him around long enough for him to block them from being able to climb the ladder. If (big IF) he were interested in playing here, I think he would be a perfect fit. |

It was ok. My 6-8 year old baseball team lost a pitchers duel 11-10 Saturday afternoon. The 12-14 year old girl's softball team won 15-2 Saturday night. So, I spent pretty much the whole day out in the heat. Had a high of 96 degrees, but it felt like 106. Summer's here. - Isleshockeyman
Win some lose some. Question, was it a dry heat? |

He looked way better than Patches in that playoff series vs. Rags. |

That's why there's a cap. Snow probably can't afford him after spending so much on our bottom 6 forwards. - JohnScammo
you could quite literally take half the players on this team and flush them and sign some cheap scrubby ufas and probably be better. definitely wouldn't be worse. |

Yeah. So's a furnace. Go stick your head into one of those. 105 is a 105, it's (frank)ing hot. And we're not even through April yet. |

But then Snow would offer then all new $3mil contracts next year because they are critical to the Isles success. |

1. Kovalchuk remains property of NJD as he is on the Voluntary Retirement List (VRL) so he is free to sign with them for coming season.
2. If Kovalchuk doesn't want to return to NJ, he could sign with ANY team as long as EVERY other team in NHL signs off on it. Not a chance.
3a. Because Kovalchuk is on VRL, NJ can't trade his rights to any team unless Kovalchuk signs with NJ first. So sign and trade possible.
3b. Note: Only way Kovalchuk can come off VRL is by signing with NJ. Player on VRL can't have rights traded. Thus, sign and trade is req'd.
4. As I understand it, these rules/scenarios are applicable if Kovalchuk wants to return to the NHL for the coming 2017-18 season.

You could put half the guys on this thread on the roster and still not be worse. |

I know it's the KHL he's playing in now, but his numbers still haven't even slowed down. 78 points in 60 games. He just turned 34, so he could have maybe 2-3 years left. Chiefs, once again you bring a gem to the table for discussion. |

It sounds like it. I had my first around 10:00 before grocery shopping . the 2nd a little after 11:00 after getting home from the grocery store. You know what they say, never go grocery shopping sober. I only had 3 more the rest of the day while I sprayed weeds and swept the sidewalks. Not nearly as adventuresome as yours. |
