They need to add a top 4 D man, sign a couple cost effective players on the wing, and compete for 3rd in the division/ WC spot.

okay okay i admit it im a little obsessed, doesnt have to be dahlin though. I mean in general it wouldnt kill this team to add more high end talent.

signing Alzner to a stupid contract and adding some wingers may get them that WC spot, but it'll cripple this teams ceiling moving forward.

Id look at moving the 17 1st pick, maybe reinhart, nylander if it finds you a top 4 guy that helps now and in the future. failing that i mean i dont want to see them scramble to put together an okay team.

If they cant go big this year, wait to do it next year.

Wilde, Merkley, Boqvist, McIsaac. There's some decent D talent in next years draft even beyond Dahlin

The real question is... has trading a top 10 pick in the draft ever worked? You're taking a kid who may need another year of development, but should probably end up being a core piece of your team for years to come, and trading that away for a player already making big money and who will probably be a UFA in a few seasons. We need to stay the course on the rebuild, make the pick, keep high-end talent coming up through the system.

He has two years on his deal and then can walk from us, that's too much of a chance to spend that many assets to acquire him. I would love to have him, but we'd be destroyed in two years if he moves on.

If we pick 6,7, or 8... we should drop back a few spots, select a defenseman, maybe Liljegren will fall to us. And, for dropping back, we can probably pick up a second round pick, which will give us 3, use them all on defense and restock the cupboard.
