Funny how the Sharks thread has become a fighting grounds for the Oil and Ducks

Can we get to sympathies for those recently departed?

- WaterVsAnchor

I thought it was an extremely close series ( other than the 7-0 pounding you gave us in Game 4 ) could have gone either way...good series!

That's exactly my point - If Draisaitl got clipped like he should have - this series is still on for game 7 perhaps even over in Sharks favor - he was a huge factor - and for those of the mind set that he has no history - not having done it - is no excuse for what he did and how he should have been punished -

With the Sharks fatigue and injuries they weren't going deep anyway. As much as I hate to say it, getting eliminated early is good for Thornton and Couture. Edm has a bright future and I think the Ducks/Oil series is going to be a good one to watch.

Clearly the whale blubber you've been eating has gone bad and is affecting your sanity. The Oil were the better team in this series, full stop.

Yes, Draisaitl's spear was dirty but you should blame the league for setting the bar by not even talking with Crosby about his junk shot.

sounds more like a Ducks fan who's kinda scared that his team is playing the Oil

More likely the Caribou and Polar Bear - but I digress - and perhaps you missed it but my complaint was with DPS if you care to read - and yes Crosby should have been clipped also as he def. has a stick history -

Outside of 97 - Sure who wouldn't be terrified of RNH or Eberle or that stellar back end -

I was finally able to watch an entire game of this series and was really amazed how the same Sharks who looked so poised, looked rattled.

Edmonton's team speed really was the difference.

San Jose ran into a buzz saw. Honestly, having seen a lot of the other series, I think the Sharks would have advanced against any other team in the West. That is not to say that they don't need to make some changes, but much of what they have needed to change has been known.

- wbon22

Yeah - teams with a lot of speed like that really give the Sharks fits. Edmonton was a tough match up for the Sharks. Coming down the stretch there was only one team I thought that would be worse for the Sharks (the Wild).

Kudos to the Oil though....they showed more depth than I thought they had. Having nearly shut out McDavid I would have thought the Sharks would run away with the series.

Looking forward to seeing what Wilson does during the offseason.... Will Thornton and/or Marleau be back....gotta wonder. Who will we lose to the Golden Knights. Can any of the "kids" take that next step (Hertl, Meier, Labanc - we really need a solid 25-30 goal scorer out of one of those...) Defense, overall seemed the most stable we've had, but I'd really like for Demelo and Heed to get a chance to wrestle a spot away from the likes of Braun, Schlemko, Martin and/or Dillon.

Should be an interesting off season.

They screwed up. Sharks reward to keep their first rounder. Sharks will need it as they will me on the decline for years now. Hope they never win another playoff game again. So done with the choking?
- Nuck4U

THis guy is such a douche troll

Not a week ago he was chirpin that the sharks would dummy the oilers after that 7-0 win. Now he's trashin the sharks after losing to a quality team

Just a sad jealous fan of a cupless franchise that has no success coming anytime in the near future

I think a lot of people felt this way. Many oiler fans included

But the second line of looch, ebs and nuge has been playing well for over a month. And the physical big guys like kassian and maroon give them the ability to play a rougher grind it out game as well.
Add to that talbot in net and they're dangerous for anyone

That said, the ducks are still the favs

Sharks got hosed by the league just as Ducks did -
That coward Douchestyl -
should not even have been playing the last 2 games after that horrific spear in the gonads of Teirney - how any of the Sharks even shook that clowns hand is remarkable - he ends up scoring important goals in the series and def influenced it -
DPS is a joke - let me pose this question- If both the Cam hit and Tierney spear had happened to Canadian teams players is there any doubt Gio and Douchesytl would not have been suspended - ... absolutely not -

- dozerD10

Are u implying that cdn teams are favoured? If so, it's One of the dumbest implications I've read thus far.

IF there was any conspiracy (which there's not) it certainly wouldn't be against southern teams. The league knows canadians will fill the stands and support no matter what. Even during a decade of bottom feeding. There's no game growth with cdn teams succeeding.
Plus, the loss of American viewers if it's a team from fuking northern Alberta in their showcase events.

If anything, they want/need the ducks and the panthers of the league to do well. These teams don't fill stadiums in the best of times as contenders. Let alone the opposite.
I actually Hesitate to include the fans in San Jose with anaheims as they seem to be pretty true blue and realky come out to support their squad. But my point still stands overall.

The oilers were undisciplined in the series no doubt, but they were penalized by almost double in the series. Lots of iffy calls early on. If there was some directive to favour Canada, those would not have been called.
But the thing is, there's wasn't.
It's funny cause I read a post the other day from an oiler fan stating the exact opposite that the league is against canadian teams etc. For somebody of the reasons I stated ab which are at least plausible.
But still, There's no conspiracy

Leon got off because he was a first time offender and already got a match penalty in the game. Period

Come back to reality

I just read Thornton played with a torn MCL and ACL, and Marleau played with a broken thumb. I sure hope they are Sharks again next year. The commitment they showed to getting SJ as far as they went should not go unrecognized. They are both still better than most players even when injured. And Hertle was playing with a broken foot. Add Couture with his obvious injuries, and it's amazing the Sharks kept the series as close as they did.

Agreed - I'd really like to see both Thornton and Marleau back next season. I'm just not ready to see those guys move on from the Sharks yet.

The only things is, I'm not sure it would be the best thing for DW to give either or both anything more than 1 or 2 year contracts, and sounds like Thornton wanted a 3 year deal.

Also possibly affecting the decision - what kind of changes does DW make during this off season....? They need to increase their scoring no doubt. Can Meier || Labanc || one of the other Cuda Kids come in and provide that offense? Would Kovalchuck want to be reunited with Deboer and if so, what would he cost? I'm not sure what other UFA's are expected to hit the open market this year.

Defense....I thought it was the best it has been in years (maybe ever); though I have to wonder if we could find a better offensive compliment to Vlasic (I like Braun, but I felt like he took a step back this year). Schlemco was good, but had the occasional breakdown....and didn't strike me as very durable. Martin seemed pretty solid and Dillon was much better than I expected. I'd love to see Heed wrestle one of those spots away from Braun or Schlemko.

I could easily see the Sharks competing for a cup again next year with Thornton and Marleau *IF* DW makes some good moves to improve the team overall and some of the young guys step up and play more consistently.
