The Caps are awful in clinching games.

5-20 actually...if you were to bet money on this game I would take the Leafs and not look back.

Game 7 would be a tough one for them

What really gives me a warm feeling in my groinal region is that at least on paper, next year will only get better.

We aren't losing anyone of significance: Boyle, McBackup and probably Polak.

But we are losing a boatload of dead weight.

Sophmore curse and injuries can hurt the upward projection, but even Vancouver fans can't fault me for being optimistic.

Exactly. I feel like I'd be good with bringing back Boyle for a year or two and keep the goat in the AHL, but beyond that there's no UFA that I'd absolutely want to bring back no matter what. If Lou can make one or two upgrades on the blueline then I'll be ecstatic

Funny little story from someone who knows Babcock/Hunter, but I guess when Mark Hunter first came on board he was at one of the games, texting one of the scouts who was assigned to that game and asked if the scout wanted to meet up for a beer after and compare notes, get to know each other, etc.

The scout apparently told him, "Nah I'm just going to watch the game from my hotel room"...

...and that's why all the scouts were canned.

Apparently. Friend's father is good friends with the Hunters, so I don't think he'd make it up. Guess that was acceptable by the current Pro Scouting regime under Nonuts.

Yeah, there is also the possibility that despite the Leafs own upward projection that next season doesn't go as well as this one. Can't count on being the healthiest team in the league every year and I wouldn't expect another poor showing from Tampa. Carolina is on the rise. Florida trying to get its house in order but they have some good young talent. Philly needs a goalie but has some great potential on D.

Leafs were like 5th in the league for number of NHL games by draftees a few years ago... too bad none of those were with Toronto (I'm looking at you Stralman, Rask, Steen...).

But it was the Pro Scouts who got turfed; Dave Morrison stayed as the Amateur Scouting (drafting) hasn't been terrible lately.

2015 looked really good. Last year had some questionable ones from the second they were picked. All in all the system seems pretty decent these days
