RFA skaters do not need to be protected. If you were the Pens who would you keep MAF or Murray?

Ducks leave forwards Boll, Wagner & Shaw unprotected.

Why would Arizona protect Mike Smith? Why would LV take Mike Smith? There are better goalie options available.

Dallas doesn't have to protect Lindell. They protect Hammer and make either Johns or Pateryn available. I went with the latter.

Flames don't have enough contracts to protect the max. They leave Stajan, Bouma, Bartkowski and McCollum unprotected.

Good artice Ed!

No way MAF is still a Pen by the draft. Either that or Murray's injury is that bad and they risk exposing him....

The GK can take any of those Flames players...

You may want to check into facts a bit more. Cap friendly has given the minimum. All teams would hide heir RFA's this way you suggest.
Max is correct.

Regarding the Ducks:

After cruising around, and reading other "mock drafts", I have to agree with one thing Ed has, but others don't: Then Ducks need to bite the bullet, and let a defenseman go.

Many others assume the Ducks will protect all of the defense, and lose Silfverberg. Why would they do that when they have Theodore and Montour standing by and ready to step in? On the other hand, what proven forward do they have to replace Silfverberg?

But I hope Vegas is more interested in Vatanen than Manson. Sami hasn't been that effective, and Theo/Mont would slide right into his spot. Manson is the "big stay at home" the Ducks usually have trouble developing on their own....

If so...just as an example...you see Severson is eligible...

The only exempt players are those on ELCs, except the one I don't understand is why Panarin is exempt...

All first- and second-year professional players, and unsigned draft choices, are exempt from selection by Vegas and do not have to be protected.

It isn't just about ELCs, it's pro players who just came over, so that includes Panarin. Since he just finished his 2nd year, he's exempt.

Thx Reubenkincade, I know I'm right but the insecure author doesnt know he's wrong. just bans dissent instead of looking into it.. You would think someone would come to his defense on this easily resolved controversy if he had any legs to stand on

Regulations Relating to Expansion Franchise
* The Las Vegas franchise must select one player from each presently existing club for a total of 30 players (not including additional players who may be acquired as the result of violations of the Expansion Draft rules).

* The Las Vegas franchise must select the following number of players at each position: 14 forwards, nine defensemen and three goaltenders.

* The Las Vegas franchise must select a minimum of 20 players who are under contract for the 2017-18 season.

* The Las Vegas franchise must select players with an aggregate Expansion Draft value that is between 60-100% of the prior season's upper limit for the salary cap.

* The Las Vegas franchise may not buy out any of the players selected in the Expansion Draft earlier than the summer following its first season.

This means vegas can select UP TO 10 players who are either UFA or RFA at the end of the season as they are still under their current contract until JUNE 30th 2017 RFAs need to be protected
