Meh, I'd rather have him then Bonino, he's not great but I've seen him win more puck battles then he loses..... he doesn't get respect because he makes 0.5m to much but idgaf about that right now.
He is fast.... lots of short handed chances etc....

People way him to be a punisher but he's not that big. Lanky farmboy strong.

(frank) i do sound like a fanboy.
He's Kessler light

- Pres.cup

He'd be a fine player if he wasn't counted on, deployed and treated like Patrice Bergeron by the coach and management.

He's basically Tyler Bozak. Miscast as a super high end #2 center like people in charge tried to sell him as, but once he got to sit in the 3 hole with lighter competition he's a perfectly useful player.

For a center he's a terrible puck distributor. But he's an even worse winger if his run with the Twins is any indication of his ability to flank a line.

I never said coaching has no place ...but to think every result has some tie in to the brilliance or idiocy of a coach is asinine ...hockey is played by players
- Redmile247

Whatever be a smart a$$. Every result. Please. No one has that power. You're just making up poop that wasn't said. Maybe you haven't played competitively or ever coached. But Hockey, at the highest levels, has a symbiosis of coach and players to outcomes. They don't function alone. Praising a coaching effect on play is like saying that player made a good shot or hit. But it doesn't mean they are playing the game on their own in control of everything. Team game is both coaching and players.

Not far off either. But I think if Sutter was flanked by the players similar to Bozak's over his career I think the numbers play out closer. Stylistically I'd agree.

If coaches had so little input then Babcock wouldn't be getting his 6+ sheets a year, Q and Julien wouldn't be 5+ and there would be no reason for AV, McLellan, Boudreau, Bylsma, Trotz etc. to be getting their 3+

Coaches matter .....but so does roster ....when you hand the best chef in the world a can of tuna and some shrubs they probably won't be able to create something respectable ....give an average chef their choice of ingredients and they will seem better

What did he tell lucic, Kassian, Maroon, etc to hit the sharks players ? Maybe he told talbot to stop the puck ?

You reach so much when it comes to coaching

- Redmile247

Sharks were unlucky not to win the last game and this one, coilers wont make it past the ducks imo, but you never know how the bounces go. I thought Talbot was good and lucky, sharks made a couple of mistakes in 3 minutes of hockey and it cost them, jones inability to close the five hole is mind boggling.

Oilers should have scored 6 goals in the last two periods in edm ...at least

Ducks were not that good against the flames ...they relied on goaltending

Oilers as much as I hate them have goaltending ...what could kill the oil is their pp

I see oilers in 6

The Ducks best chance to win is to clog things up and slow the Oilers down to their speed. A lot is going to be on Larsen, Kassian, Maroon, etc. to play effectively physical in terms of disrupting the cycle and breakouts. Sekera, Klefbom and Benning are going to have to be on point with their exits. Could easily look a lot like the Sharks series when the Oilers were clinging to killing time by chipping it off the glass.

They don't have a Dillon-Schlemko pairing either. Fowler and Vatanen are expected back I saw so they're basically 6 strong on D. Lindholm-Montour, Vatanen-Fowler, Bieksa-Theodore or whatever.

The Oilers best chance will be on transition to making the more plodding guys look as slow as they are.

U18s wrap up today. Some Euro kids and Americans I sure like. Next years draft will be awesome. Should be trading players for next season. Sign cheaper vets to trade.

Been watching this Liljegren kid, he is not even the best defenseman on his team. For a puck mover he ends to learn to pass tape to tape not 6 feet off teammates stick. Can see this kid dropping on draft day.

Call it the coach multiplier.... or we could go the swordsman route....

Babcock may have a 5 percent impact
So multiply his team effect by 1.05

Wd may have an effect of 1.20 percent
So multiply his team effect by 1.012

If Babcock had a team rated... let's call it 71, and WD has a team rated 75 the coaching effect would result in....74.5 for Babcock and 75.9 for WD.
Wd with the better team still wins more games.
The following year Babcock gets a good player and his team grows to 72 while Wds team stays stagnent to 74.

Then with the coaching effect multiplied into it Babcock would have a team rated 75.6 while WD would have a team rated 75.9

Wd still wins barely more games.

Now year three is an interesting statistical model as we see more growth from Babcock younger players and a little growth in WD team (early season, no injuries etc...)

Babcocks team grows to 75 while WDs team grows to 75.4
Babcock coaching effect results in am overall team rating of 78.5...a huge bump
WD even with a better team had a modified rating of 76.3

So even with a superior team, this is the year that babcocks team surpasses WD.

This is how statistical analysis and coaching analytics work. The numbers are made up but 100 percent accurate. A coach has some effect as demonstrated in year 3, but it's just a modifying fraction. Not the main integer.

Now replace teams with swords, and coaches with swordsman and we'll have a talk.

As a non Swede but a defender of letting Swedes swordfight in the showers rights I am deeply offended by your cultural insensitivity and blatantly racist comments. πŸ˜‰

But honestly, the race of the player has no bearing on their impact on the team.... unless they're Russian... (frank)ing hate those guys
