A decade is a long time...but the first 6-7 years of that decade long string of futility was also wasted as they had no clear plan. It's only in the last 2-3 years that they've gotten their heads out of their asses...

So nothing prevent another team from having a significant turn around/major overhaul of their team in a 2-3 year timeframe if they do things right...

Kadri was drafted 8 years ago, so was Gardiner, JVR 9 years ago (trade for Schenn), Kapanen was traded for Kessel who was drafted 11 years ago...
I get that the kids upfront are good, but the leafs don't make the playoffs without the players they drafted long ago.

Habs are not in the same situation, they have a good team. they just need to make it better. yes that can be done in a few years.
