would depend on who they add around them. Risto may have more gamechanger in him but i trust trouba way more 5 on 5 and thats what we need right now.

Noooo thanks

I know there are people around here that think Risto is not a #1.....they are delusional.

- feetontheair22

you can certainly make the case either way. Neither side is delusional in that thought though.

If it was delusional to think risto wasnt a #1 we'd be in the playoffs and murray and bylsma would still have their jobs.

Outside of Eichel, Risto is the last guy the Sabres should be trading. The guy is an absolute stud and will only get better.

Kane and Reinhart should be going first.

- As_I_See_It

I mean he has some potential to become a stud. But he's far from a #1 right now

Put him in a better system and give him less minutes and I think he'll be just fine.

Yeah, I'm hopeful too but its been almost 300 NHL games and his team has almost always had worse metrics when he is on the ice than when hes not.

I hope those fancy numbers are all wrong ...

The problem is we don't have the defense to shelter him like he would be on a better team

I think he's getting a bad rap because he's had to do it all the last couple years. I mean, let's face it, he hasn't had the best supporting cast around him in the other 5 defensemen.

He finished 5th overall in TOI/Game....and had more points that Doughty and Suter........on this years' buffalo sabres

What more does the guy have to do?

I didn't read the back pages but somebody suggesting we trade Risto for anyone needs to visit a good doctor. Let's deal with getting a hockey Czar, GM, coach, getting rid of Moulson, Bogo, Ennis contracts etc before we go and trade Risto. If we want to get rid of Risto and ROR (from yesterday), can you imagine what this team would look like?

Im not saying hes not top pairing but saying its 'deulsional' to think hes not a #1 is major stretch. hes quite obviously got some flaws in his own end.

Can we at least agree that any flaws Risto has are often exposed because of the poop-ass teams he's had to play on?

i attribute part of this to how hes been told to play. same metrics indicate that theyve asked him to essentially guard the slot with his life and give up all the outside shots.

i dont disagree with that at all. But thats the point. Erik Karlsson plays on a poop ass blueline as well. Thats the difference between a no brainer #1 and a "he might need help and a bit less ice time" top pair guy.

Let go; Gionta, Deslauriers, Franson, Kulikov, Fedun, Nillson
Trade/Let go; Moulson, Ennis, Gorges
Trade; Reinhart, Carrier.
Baptiste and Bailey need to be up all year. Gionta, thanks but kids need to play.
When we can have our third line be the 4th line we will have arrived.
The second pairing on D is the big how to? Trade Reinhart?
Unload dead weight in Ennis, Gorges, Moulson, Bogo, etc.
I would not pay Shattenkirk.
I would pay anything to get Lehner to stop a shot in the shootouts.
Nylander, needs to be up he is scary talented, put him on weight gain and let him play alongside Eichel.
Need two top 4 D (not 1), and two scoring LW's.
Don't give up on Zemgus.
Get a freaking coach that lights a fire under their asses before each game.

You can argue that the teams he's played on wouldn't be so poop-ass if his flaws weren't as bad

I don't think any top picks in this draft make this roster in 2017...

I'd like to see Buffalo deal out of their spot and get a dman that way. Hypothetically something like
Buffalo Round 1 Pick 5
for
Anaheim Round 1 Pick 25
Theodore
Manson

Might be overvaluing the pick we give up but whatever. I'm making that call anyway.

- Phatjohnsn

Yep - you're severely overvaluing the pick. You wouldn't get either of them for the exchange of firsts, much rather both. Also, small point, but Buffalo can't pick 5th. It's either 1,2,3,6,7,8 or 9
