Sabres need to hire a GM who is:

- From completely outside of the organization
- Has no existing relationships or loyalty issues with players or personnel
- Needs to be ruthless and not afraid destroy relationships or even careers
- Has loads of experience and credentials
- Needs to be/have been a winner
- Needs to be respected around the league
- Knows how to draft and trade well
- Has a plan and patience to implement and execute regardless of what happens

Sound familiar?

It should, and that's the type of GM that this teams needs.

As much as I hate to say it, the bottom line is that Buffalo has a lot of excellent pieces, BUT they also have A LOT of holes i.e. D and G, anchor contracts and their drafting and prospect pipeline could improve. That said, if the right people are brought in I could see this team doing some damage possibly next season, but most likely in 2018.

oh yea makes sense, but i like the idea behind it. i hope the fact that TM was a former ass gm doesnt discourage him from hiring another one. Lombardi in a VP role or something is fine but Brisebois or macivor in the GM spot would be great.

Have an adequate defense and Lehner would have had even better numbers

mixed feelings on fenton. They passed on him last time and since then his name hasnt really come up as a strong candidate with any of the other vacancies.

That's all you took from that?

Lehner was ok this season, but 23W in 58 starts? And this being his first half decent season. The guy also has injury issues. Exactly much are you prepared to commit to this guy right now given that he is RFA?

He's also a (frank)ing hot head who can be EASILY thrown off his game, not what you want from a tender.
EDIT: Forget about the game-to-game during the regular season, just imagine Lehner's crease getting crashed every shift in a playoff series.

As a Leafs fan, I'm actually hoping that Buffalo commits to this guy long term!

Two of the three issues you identify here are uninformed.

He is a hothead. I am waiting to say if that takes him up a level or takes him off his game.

I guess I am always going to pay more attention to results in the franchise he serves over what other people are not saying about him.

And the fact that they passed on him last time means nothing, especially inasmuch as Im sure you would tell me the pick they made was so bad.

Oh yeah, why is that?

As far as being a hot head goes, all that means is that he lacks focus and can easily be thrown off his game. Name me some recent hot head tenders that have found success.

Of goalies that played in 50+ games (typical starter sample size) Lehner was 6th in sv%. The goalie was not the issue.

He's had 2 injuries. I'm pretty sure your own goalie has had more than that over the course of his career.

On a team this bad his number of wins are meaningless. The more important measure of his success was his save percentage, which was in the top 10 in the league.

His "injury issues" are a myth. He had one horrible concussion that led him to come back prematurely and triggered another injury. Once he got healthy from that, he has appeared at the same rate of starts as any other #1 in the league.

I've seen it work both ways with him since he came here. As to how it could work out in the playoffs, we'll have to wait and see. If he channels it correctly, it could be super beneficial to us.

I forgot that wins is a direct reflection of the goalie...and not the rest of the team
