What's the criteria? Does one super-super star trump many good players? Is it based on volume of players that have played X number of NHL games?
- bloatedmosquito

I'm not sure what you have in mind, but Burke drafted the entire core of the last competitive team except Ohlund. Kesler, Bieksa, Sedin's was the old core. He also signed an undrafted rookie to be the other core guy. Gillis signed Hamhuis, which was another foundational piece, but Burke put it all in place.

Waking up to this was a kick in the nuts.

He was a bright spot going forward despite his flaws. It has basically now become a wasted draft year again , aside from Demko.

I imagine the language barrier for him and his new wife made him feel like an island so I can see the going back to the KHL.

This BS country club to single him out is for the birds. A core that is suppose to mentor has chased away JV TRYamkin and McCann but thank god they did save Megna and Chaput.

Management should be let go they are just wasting years of our rebuild. They can't even say the fricken word. We will go waste another year while we kiss Sedin/Edler ass and watch them eat our cap space delay our rebuild and eat up time that prospects should have.

Gillis, 2011 Draft, 150th overall, Frank Corrado.

*drops mic*

I never said he was good at drafting for the future, just that we were the best team in the NHL while he was the manager. He fecked us for the future and unfortunately we are living it right now.

Burke is the best draft-day GM this franchise has ever had, that's just a fact. He is the model of building through the draft around top5picks. He's the best GM this franchise has had to date IMO.

Maybe true of the 1994 team, but not the 2011 team IMO.
- DrChristianTroy

I hear ya, I was sick to my stomach after that game. But again, that's on the players. I was insinuating that the team was managed and constructed properly, which I think is just a fact based on how good that team was.

exactly....you can voice your opinion on a forum more vehemently than you can debate in person. But the sole intent isn't to sit around singing kumbaya, it's to engage, disagree, agree, to a point where someone might change your thought process or you might change theirs, or you might just agree to disagree.

This is not a reason for everyone to sit around and get along....go to therapy for that.

That's why I'm surprised so many people have fled because of some anonymous internet ribbing. Didn't realize it can be so devastating. Kids and hormone enraged teens I can understand, but not adults. We are a sensitive bunch us canuck fans.

It is just one think after another with this management . So yeah . But hey we get another full year of watching Danny and Hank turn the other cheek as the new coach calls out someone else for being a chicken

When I said "look deeper", I was referring to why they were the best under Gillis, I mean the real reason. Because of players he had nothing to do with in terms of bringing them in.

Sure he added some good depth players, even stole a PP specialist in Ehrhoff from SJ because they had cap trouble, but the real reason they were good was because of players he didn't bring in.

He gets depth credit, but they had no chance if they didn't have the guys Burke drafted and Nonis stealing Lu from Florida because Keenan had a hard-on for Bert.

Maybe you should step down and I'll tell you what I really think
- LeftCoaster

I don't have to step down Lefty, I already know what you think of me and I'm ok with it.

My point was, if in an open forum people can make uninformed chicken little comments, then why are my comments any less relevant, it is after all an open forum dialogue...or does that only work one way.

BTW if you want to get something off your chest, go ahead and send a PM

Yup, brings a little more clarity to the timeline of signing 2 weeks after the season ends. I realize they were still trying to sign him, but you would think they would have come out ahead of the news if they were told in his exit interviews that this was possible

Of course, it's fun banter, you've gotta have pretty thin skin to get upset and take any of this personal. Which is humorous in and of itself

Maybe you should open your eyes up and realize its time to change the guys in the room who are of the opinion this guy and that guy doesn't fit in. Pretty sick and tired of the vets dictating who fits in and who doesn't while they finish at the bottom of the league. Inmates running the asylum.

The whole room and organization needs a house cleaning if we're being honest.

I remember when we used to talk with excitement about Joe Cannata. He was penciled in.

But now he plays for Washington or Colorado or something I think. Funny how things move...

Much like willie to Green, I'd hoped the Canucks learned from Gillis and wouldn't hire another rookie GM after they just had 2. That being said, maybe the Tallon's, Lamarello's and Bowman's of the world simply don't want to work in Vancouver?

Just because Forsling and Tree aren't on Canucks, doesn't make 2014 a bad draft, they still drafted those players people

Come on buddy I was just joking, of course it doesn't go just one way, half the fun is trying to get the other guy, or girl, or weird guy in Nuck4U's case, to see things your way.

I like you, you're a good person in real life if I were to take a stab at things. If I were to guess I'd say your a good family man, you're a good husband and father. You care about things, sometimes too much.

Don't ever think I don't respect you, I most certainly do! You've got a tough task being a ref on here. Sometimes I wish you were more assertive, if I had one complaint that'd be it.

It's just a bunch of opinions...the one thing that bonds us all is we want the same thing. The path is the entertaining debate.

You as a long time Canuck fan should realize ho little new talent has come through our doors. We hope all seven draft picks start in the NHL this year. That is what happens when serve up crap year after year.

He is a coward?

He should have blended in well on this marshmallow team of turn the other cheek and sorry I don't fight roster.

He had the most hits and probably had the most fights with two .

- VANTEL

He is a coward because he is entitled and wasn't willing to prove himself. You must admit, he is pretty soft for a guy his size though. How can you defend a guy that thinks he should be on the top pair when he is rookie? I thought everyone wanted the kids to earn their ice time? That was yesterdays prerogative?

Well, it kindof does.
What good are those selections if they're no longer with the team and more importantly, brought back dead assets or none at all?

- Whiskey-Tango

right, but how the assets are managed doesn't actually effect their value though. It's fair to say JB dropped the ball on that trade, I agree the move was a donkey one. But it's not really fair to say the pick was bad, because it looks like an NHL player. Many on here agreed with it at that time(not saying you did), that we just needed a few more players and the team could compete. I was very much in favor of tanking then, because the writing was already on the wall and I didn't need to see us get worked by the Flames to know it

He was one of the few players that hit or fought. He was a 22 year old in a foreign country learning about everything. He had guys that were 30 years old 6'5 coming to challenge him He was learning.

As he was going further and further he was learning he could beat these other players . Same as his attack game with the puck was progressing. He was developing.
