The whole situation seems fishy to me for a few reasons:

I agree the leash should have been longer, but the people responsible for that are gone now, Willie/Lidster. He is making this move without considering the replacement and shift from "trying to win" to "trying to develop".

He was soured from the beginning of the season where he assumed he was top-6 but was held out and asked to go to the AHL to get in shape. We could see from TV he was gassed, thats on him but wont take ownership of it.

If he really thinks he could play 20 minutes a night in the NHL, why not request a trade and if non materializes you sign in the KHL? I would think there would be plenty of interest from teams in acquiring him, unless they also feel like he is not as good as he thinks he is?

- WhiteLie

I agree with everything, who knows maybe its just money or maybe he wasnt confident in his abilities yet(which might be the case) to be a top 4.. I have a feeling poor communication is as much the problem as anthing else..

Hopefully he is back in a season or 2. I was expecting him to be a Chara light and at least a top 4 dman so this really stings.

Wow the posts in here this morning are worse than being at grade 8 prom night with all the speculation and gossip being thrown around.

Botchford has nothing on you guys in here,

No one here knows the reasons why any of this went down, no one here knows of the conversations that were had, but keep working yourselves into a frenzied mass.

At least you guys are all on the same war path... that's a 1st. Except Whitelie

The more i think of it the more I think they sent mixed msgs then offered him a 1 million a year show me deal, he laughed and took 3 million per and said (frank) it im going home...

Those numbers are totally random for all the fools who like to jump all over people over dumb poop.

A week ago I would have said keep JB, now I would have to agree with this post.
- VanHockeyGuy

I'll start here....everyone is incredibly uninformed and jumping to conclusions...just like that idiot Botchford.

Some of you may remember that I stated a week ago that the KHL was a possibility as Tree was HATED in the room. well, now you know the source is correct.

Tree came into camp out of shape with a bad attitude. He refused to play in the AHL and his teammates resented that. Benning spent all season trying to cater to the guys feelings as he disliked Willie. Tree was hated in the room all season. He thinks he deserves to be on the top pairing and he doesn't respect his teammates. At one point, a player glove punched him in the face and his tears were welling up on the bench. Lidster laid into him for being a coward. The players all thought he was a p*ssy, yes even Horvat!

Benning was the one guy that stuck by him and tried to keep him around. They even fired the coach! Tree has shown his true colors and the Canucks don't need somebody like him in the room.

People should get their facts straight before going full B!tchford.

It doesn't matter the reason why it happened. It happened and this team (and their fans) need something to be positive about and this management group keeps failing on delivering anything positive. In fact, they have delivered the exact opposite. They promised change but the changes made have not been significant enough to see a difference from typical poor team management.

Nothing has changed.

Who really knows though. I mean for someone like Goldobin, for example, who has been up and down through the years, making $70k in the AHL because he didnt have a KHL clause, thats gotta rub a few guys the wrong way. There are more than a few on the team that have paid their dues in the AHL only to get a shot

Even in his interview seems a little entitled:

We poop all over the D, but could he really play consistently as well as Edler/Tanev against top competition? I dont think so. Confidence is great, but running back to the KHL 2 weeks after your season ends tells me he (or people around him) thinks he is better than the NHL

I hope Tim Murray shoots to the top of TL's list if he's looking to add to management, he has set up Buffalo for a loooong time.

Again....it's really disappointing because it brings to light all their failures, not just this one. The difference with Tryamkin from other prospects, regarding playing time, is he was their best player on occasion, you've gotta reward that.
- LeftCoaster

So Benning should stand behind the bench and allocate ice time? Give your head a shake ffs

It's pretty disappointing Makita. I've been losing faith with this management group this past season, particularly because of the mixed messages from Benning, Linden and Desjardin. Then with their refusal to acknowledge a rebuild and then this.
Not a good start to the off season, in my eyes.

- Marwood

Exactly my point. We've discussed how long a leash do you give some players, but what about the length of leash you give management?

I think thats possible. I think its reasonable for him to look at the roster and see Tanev, Edler, Gubranson and Stecher ahead of him, but to bolt before knowing the new coach seems fishy.

I looked at his game logs from this year and from Jan 1 to the end of the season, he had 6 games of less than 15 minutes, and 8 games above 19 minutes (compared to 9 games less than 15 and 3 above 19 from season start to Dec 30).

Skew the filter for after the trade deadline and its 1 game under 15 and 3 over 19 minutes. For a rookie those arent terrible numbers to be getting 16-17 minutes a game, with plenty of room to get more icetime on special teams

Money is a great motivator, I'm pretty sure he just has a big paycheck waiting and a chance at the Olympics, I agree with your skepticism. Could be in the dressing room, but who knows

They should've played the poop outta him from January on, but whatever, just poor management of a prospect again. They'll be fine without him but he was 7th in average icetime for dmen this year I just read.....miss management.
- LeftCoaster

Mismanagement or a coach that struggled playing the young guys? I agree we should have played the poop out of him once the season went south. WD also should have never called him out after the Boston game either. But after 1yr he jumped ship? I guess I just don't completely understand.

Speculative, but could be very much true. It just seems this type of drama follows this team no matter the regime running it. Why?

Good general managers with the assistance from the team's coach and captain can keep a room together no matter the personalities inside it. 20+ guys in a room are not all going to get along.

This room is a perfect example.

Tree was an asset that got away during a time when this team desperately needs assets. It's just a kick in the nuts for folks who saw a little glimmer of light in a really poopy season.

You say "source" and "facts" like they're things that we should be satisfied with, when you really haven't done much in the way of presenting either. It's ok to paint yourself as an insider, but don't start with the "I know better" and "people should" nonsense unless you yourself have some actual evidence.

Dude, it sucks but it's all real. This has nothing to do with Benning. The only one that should be blamed is tryamkin. If you want someone else to blame I suppose Willie. I dislike Willie but I don't think it's his fault.

Then don't you think Linden should have refrained from calling him a future core player if this was the case? Or didn't he know he was poison in the room? Something doesn't add up with this picture.

Look at Buffalo's lineup, how much it changed and who Murray brought in. After that, come back and try to tell me with a straight face that he didn't make that team geometrically better between draft and trades.
