Ok let me break it down - it's mostly divisional as in the 2nd place team in each division always plays the 3rd place team in the division regardless of where they place.

PIT - CBJ
OTT - BOS

Winner of division and #1 seed always plays the number 2 wild card. WAS - TOR

Winner of other division plays the 1st wild card, NYR - MTL

Therefore TOR crossed over to the other divisional bracket. WAS, PIT, CBJ, and TOR

and NYR crossed over to the Atlantic Bracket - MTL, OTT, BOS, NYR

The winner of each of those matchups play eachother and then the team that comes out of each bracket meet in the Eastern Conference Finals.
