Tanev played three years in the AHL, he was developed as a pro there. Hutton was rushed to the NHL because he was drafted by a poopty team, he should've spent a couple years getting better in the AHL like Tanev did.

Three half seasons in the AHL for Tanev. I think the Canucks should send everyone they can down to the AHL. Sign a bunch of old vets to short term contracts.

been saying he is garbage since the fall. finally others are noticing
- CanuckDon

Ryan Phoeling from the USA played a season in the NCAA as basically 3rd line center. He could be a solid NHL 3rd line center.

......it's also a product having a terrible team Lefty. When we had a stacked roster prospects had no where to play but the AHL.
- CanuckDon

In my opinion good management teams compile youth and develop them by using available cap space to sign free agent or replacement level players to ice an NHL team, while those said players grow their game.

That's not what Benning is doing, which makes me angry!!!

The Canucks did a great job, under previous management, developing the team that went to the finals. Benning is not following the same path though, therein lies my annoyance with him.

I think it helped immensely having AV as your farm coach and then your NHL coach with a good portion of his AHL players moving up with him. The message and approach stayed consistent and that really benefits the players.

AV is a good coach. I don't think Green is at the same level. Too bad.

Yes but he developed his game down there for parts of three seasons, you falsely made it sound like he jumped into the NHL from NCAA, he didn't. He was developed with patience in the AHL.

Regarding players like Kesler, Edler, Hansen, Bieksa, Tanev, Cooke, Allen, Raymond etc. they all spent time in the American Hockey League before making the jump to the NHL.

Something you don't really see with Benning until his hand is forced. They rushed Jake and Jared to the NHL, when they weren't ready, Stecher, Hutton, Boeser should probably all go down and force their way up....but it won't happen.

If we hire Crawford I'll snap. I'll truly go off the deep end. I'll fire fans and players I don't like out of my cannon without a moments hesitation

- CanuckDon

Cop cars turned over and set on fire downtown would be the appropriate response.

managements directive has clearly changed post deadline. Linden has already said they plan to stack Utica this year. Looks like you will get your wish

I'd like to see Hutton and Virtanen in Utica next year...maybe Goblin to start. I think Boeser and Stetcher are to good for the Comets personally.

I'm not dismissing it entirely, I'm just saying they were given chances from Willie without his usual "earn it" mantra. For whatever reason. Baertschi, as an example, was given patience and ice-time while others weren't.
- LeftCoaster

All part of the 'mixed messages management'. Maybe next season they can practice not contradicting each other on the same day.

Too bad it took that long to see the obvious. But it's a rookie management team so I'm happy they are developing as well.

If the team is going to be bad next year why not send Boeser to the AHL to taste the pro game on a competitive level? If he lights it up down there, then sure, call him up.

I watched first 2 periods of Canada vs Finland. Canada's D is so bad. Then I changed to watch the USA vs Sweden game. Watched till it was 4-1 USA.

Yes, Hutton for me. He was his own worst enemy having a solid rookie season. Just like the fan base, management got all excited and their expectations overblown. I'd hate to see Hutton skills decline because of poor development. I think that happen a lot in the NHL.

Gilbert Brule is the poster boy for poor development. (frank)ed his career up. That's why I don't listen to a word Doug MacLean says.

Yes, they have made some mistakes but at least the prospect pool is getting deeper. I think the team hit rock bottom this year and will start trending up after this draft. I hope that's the case anyways

I hear you but how do you tell Boeser, sorry kid...we realize you are our best winger but we are busy tanking so go earn a minor league pay cheque and ride the busses for awhile

If Benning and Linden are making decisions based on what the fans want, God help us, because they're worse than I thought.

I'm all for playing young guys, I crave for it, but, I want young players that are ready to play in the NHL.

Easily....just tell him you want him to develop in the minors more. If he's got 15 goals in the first 25 games call him up and say, ok, he's ready.

He was just a player that came from the NCAA to make it ahead of his CHL counterparts. He was there the same time as Yann Sauve, Kevin Counnaton. Who had recently finished their 20 year old seasons in the CHL.

Fans are only saying that because it was obvious that this was a lost season and people wanted to see some familiar names finally get a shot at the NHL. What would have been the fallout if it didn't work out? Low attendance and a top 3 draft pick?

If the vets were contributing more and actually making the team competitive then nobody would be saying "play the kids". This current situation called for it though.
