I remember reading that he actually lost weight this off-season to get faster. I'm not sure if that was muscle or chub.

15-20 pounds? Too much for a guy his size. 5 pounds of muscle is significant even though it doesn't sound like much. He's really learned to play an elusive game while still throwing the body occasionally.

I don't think he NEEDS to put on that weight, but it wouldn't hurt. Then again, if the weight he lost was muscle in order to get faster, then no, stay where he is.

Well I did say more than 10 would be bad for him, but at his age, could still bulk up a tad without it hindering him. Lean muscle training should be able to put on a few pounds without any speed or dexterity hindrance.

He has facial fractures and is now out for the year. So he wasn't good to go back in.

So you really honestly think the team forced him to play? I find it much more likely they asked him if he could and he decided to give it a go.

Is 5-10 lbs really going to make a difference? (Not being a Richard, honest question.)

I play goalie and 10 pounds is a huge difference in how I play...

17. I went for 18 and now they call me Caitlyn, and I didn't even have to pay for it.

While I agree with your logic, the Blue jackets shouldn't have even allowed it without an stay. Teams need to make better decisions before jeopardizing their players.

It's about his mass. 5 lbs of muscle will increase his mass and give him a little more strength along the boards.

Look at Sheary. Yeah, he gets knocked around sometimes, but overall he doesn't get pushed around so easily and he's 8lbs heavier than Gman, but 2 inches shorter. That extra mass goes a long way.

Well yeah, its going to effect your speed and reflexes I would say.. but I'm talking about this "being pushed off the puck" or "pushed around" stuff. Is that 5-10 lbs really going to make a difference? I feel like he could focus more on edgework, balance, and body position and be just fine, without sacrificing speed.

It was a 3-3 game and they were trailing 2-0 in the series. He's arguably their top defenseman. They have a better chance to win with him at 50% than without him. If he was able to handle the pain and passed any baseline tests, it was on him whether or not he felt like he could return. You can't really make a facial fracture worse when you wear a full cage. It's already broken.

Yes he can throw a clot and die for starters. Also, to be honest he most likely has a concussion. So it was dumb to send him back out there. He is 19 years old. Dumb.

Sheary falls and gets pushed over more than anyone I've ever seen in the NHL. Hahahaahahahaha

Nah, just cracked and fell off. Contrary to what the homeless dude down the street told me, they don't grow back.

I must be watching a different player then. I see him get knocked down sometimes, but I see him frequently come out with the puck along the boards.

Bobby Farnham fell more IMO. His was self induced usually, however.

Oh don't get me wrong, I love Sheary, and I think he's a stud, but (frank) does he fall over a lot. He's on the ice like 4-5 times a game. hahaha

Ooph. you might be right Farnham fell a LOT. Sheary will have some self induced falls too that are funny. It's like he gets so excited the puck is there and he trips over himself haahha

Well he is a bit spastic at times and falls on his own. The big difference is when you watch him retrieving pucks along the boards; that's where his mass serves him well. Guentzel isn't bad at per-se, but more times than most he has to pass the puck from along the boards rather that skate out with it.

When you think about it, Letang and Ian Cole are really the same player if you don't count skating, passing, ability to read plays, shooting, and body checking. I mean, they both have 2 eyes and legs.
