The Leafs have 3 guys capable of playing 1C with Matthews, Marner and Kadri
- sbroads24

might be getting a little overzealous with kadri...2c, ok...1c?...not so sure about that

Being a good hockey player doesnt mean youre a leader. What a guy does on the ice in terms of talent might not be the voice of a locker room. This is going to be RORs 9th season in the NHL...he finally is wearing a letter. There is more to the story when it comes to him. I am not in the sabres locker room so I have no idea how he perceived

Landy is 24 years old...so 6 years. You hate landeskog bc you love ROR. Which is just a weird thing

- DDM-Coga

Just my opinion but ive always felt this like weird "fakeish" leadership talk our of ROR's mouth. like hes trying to hard to act like a big leader. Says alot of buzz words and statements but it always felt kinda forced to me. IDK maybe its just me..

Read the Buffalo News article yesterday where Jacky was called "pentulant" by a local writer.

I love the kid - but he's too immature for the Captaincy yet - he can't even get back to play D yet?

Is this a popularity contest with McDavid? He's not McDavid - had he been - he would have went 1st overall.

am of the opinion that o'reilly would be a continuation of the professional captains we've witnessed for the past 10 years...

which, got the team no where of significance

I think he's a superstar in the making.

I think he's the X factor between the two teams

You could argue that

Eichel/Matthews
Rielly/Risto
Kadri/ROR
Nylander/Sam

All are or close to equal, but the Sabres have NO one close to Marner outside of Jack.

- sbroads24

I actually agree 1 million % about him being the X factor. I'm holding out hope that our Nylander is going to step in and be that. I know people are down on him because of Rochester's poor season but that is where I'm stashing my hope.

Also, me beating a dead horse , I take ROR > Kadri every. single. time. If you give me the option.

If that's the case, then the only thing that matters is Jack's relationship with the Sabres' management. Who the (frank) cares what some hack reporter thinks? I don't think the Sabres or the fan base are going to let some columnist for a rag of a newspaper, run the best player we've had since Lafontain out of town, because he has a chip on shoulder for some unbeknownst reason.
- sskkoo1

It won't be Harrington alone that will result in Jack's decision to move on down the road. That's a ridiculous conclusion. It'll simply be the cumulative effect of the negativity the local media and fan-base perpetuate that will lead to it.

No, I just believe Colorado made the wrong choice. Still believe that.

I think they are a lot closer than people think, but agree to disagree there.

I still think Nylander will be good. I just think Marner is on a trajectory to being special

It was never ROR vs Landeskog. IT was ROR vs MacKinnon/Duchene. He wanted the C, the 1C role, the mega contract....he wanted to be the guy to drive the boat for the Avs going forward.

Well Sorry he wasn't going to take those guys roles. I love ROR the player, but he still is a bit of a head case.

Additionally - YES - I do believe the guys work ethic and stats DO influence whether or not his is Captain....

....I mean, correct me if I am wrong, the criteria you use is.....Popularity?

And, that all goes away with winning. Do you think they won't get on the winning track for another 5-6 years that it will take for Jack to become a UFA and walk from us?

ROR basically has been given whatever he wanted in this league by going against the grain, almost pouting in a way.

Doesn't get the C and the long term contract...signs that ridiculous offesheet.
Doesn't want to sign an extension and fights to 11th hour of arbitration.
Wont budge in contract talks and force his way out of town being traded.

When you look back at his time with the Avs, he really seemed to be more entitled looking out for himself vs being a team first guy. ON the business side of things at least, don't really know how much of a locker room he is and no one really can know that unless you played for that team

team voted Captains are happening more often than not in most locker rooms in the NHL if I am correct. So its respect of his peers. So yes Work ethic does come into play here, but its more than just he tries hard on the ice.

A captain is the voice of the locker room to talk with the coaching staff, etc. Keeping everyone in line. Some guys just might not be able to have command a room like that

Loved the write up dude..... First off.. I will admit that I have watched only a handful of games in the last 3 seasons. Mostly because I seriously just can't stomach watching these guys right now. Yes it is important to have the right captain but this team is just a collage of "potential". There are only a few that actually display talent on the ice on a nightly basis.... How about they sh!t can the potential and bring in hard working every day players? "potential" does not produce winning...

So apparently the future of the Sabres progression will be determined on who wears the C.

People are making way to much out of who wears the C, this team has bigger issues that need to be addressed.

I watched half of their last game vs the bolts, and a leaf game

those were the only 2 games I watched since the back to back losses vs colorado and the yotes, when the team quit on the season

I will give them a good look in the fall, but if they are blah again, they are no longer must see tv IMO
