You mean if Marner and Matthews, their two best players get hurt? Yeah, probably.
- sbroads24

Did Marner take even 50 faceoffs this year? You're acting like hes deployed regularly at C, but he isn't.

I would think if Matthews goes down for 30 games next season, they move Kadri to 1C with Marner next to him. At that point - Marner's numbers dip and the team misses the playoffs. There is quite a large talent drop from Matthews -> Kadri.

There is no doubt in my mind Jack bails from Buffalo the minute he is able.

Harrington can then add another bullet-point to his resume.

More like the right move lol let's call him a whiner because he likes winning
- GERBE!!!75PTS

Read the Buffalo News article yesterday where Jacky was called "pentulant" by a local writer.

I love the kid - but he's too immature for the Captaincy yet - he can't even get back to play D yet?

Is this a popularity contest with McDavid? He's not McDavid - had he been - he would have went 1st overall.

No he didnt.

Where is all this ROR is a leader coming from?
Dating back to Colorado days his leadship has been continually called into question.

- ImThatGuy

His stats, commitment, and how he handles himself off and on the ice

(Go ahead, he ran the car into Timmy Ho's - it was actually probably good for him - i.e. lesson)

Where is all this coming from? Because Jack complained about losing? Good, he should. He's here for at least another 5 years unless someone offer sheets and we don't match. I'm sure he'll settle down and take charge of his team by then. If Drouin is still in Tampa after that mess, than I'm not worried about Jack going anywhere.
- sskkoo1

Because people will always have this woe is me Buffalo attitude.

I bet the NHL has a hand in this to and they force Eichel out of Buffalo because the league hates the Sabres.

Sure, but you are acting like Kadri was never good previously.

The last time the Leafs were decent (12-13) he had 44 points in 48 games. Then dipped when the Leafs went into the gutter, and is now a 30 goal 2-way center when they are relevant again.

Also, I said they have 3 guys "capable" of playing #1 C. Not 3 guys currently playing center. Once Bozak is gone, Marner will move to the dot.

This is just the beginning of a long, messy and contentious relationship between Jack and the Buffalo media. He's just completed his 2nd year with the Sabres and already is being called out by Harrington. You know why ? Because Jack couldn't give two shiets about giving Harrington the time of day. That's how Harrington operates.

This is going to be a trainwreck going forward

I was trying to find the overreaction GIF that best suits the above quote. Which one do you like better?

No doubt Eichel is an incredible player and future of the Sabres, but he seems too temperamental for the C.

I don't think you can give it to guys like ROR or Bogo, but would a guy like Risto be a better fit?

- As_I_See_It

risto was my choice mid-season, but he's probably not in the captaincy plans for sabres brass....

if jake McCabe had a bit more talent and was a true top-pairing d-man, from what I've gathered he has what it takes to be a captain

I can't think of a single Franchise player that wanted to run from their team while still on their ELC after the GM has made a commitment to them. GMTM has told Jack that it's his team and that he will do what it takes to build around him, so what more could a player want?

Jack isn't going anywhere, this talk is all just crap from other fan base to stir trouble where it doesn't exist because they personally don't like the Sabres.

I think its entirely possible that Kadri got carried by his linemates in that season but (a) I'm not armed with that information (b) I just don't think hes that good and I'm not even open to being convinced about him. So whatever, to each his own.

When you said "capable" of playing 1C, I took it as you saying they wouldn't see a significant drop-off if they put each of those players there. So I am disagreeing with that point, which I reached on (because you never said that explicitly). My bad.

Personally I like Marner a lot but don't see him being a C in the NHL long-term. To be fair, what the eff do I know. We'll see how that works out... but if he does get moved to C full time, I expect his output to dip a little because it often does when young players make that switch.

And your team is on the Clock too bossman -

ROR is a leader - if not, why does he play everything (PP - PK etc) skates 29 mins a night - stays out of the penalty box (Lady Byng winner) offers after practice sessions...

Yep - he's a EXCELLENT Captain -

Hows Landy doing in year 10 of the "Landy Era" ?

- -JCDC-

Being a good hockey player doesnt mean youre a leader. What a guy does on the ice in terms of talent might not be the voice of a locker room. This is going to be RORs 9th season in the NHL...he finally is wearing a letter. There is more to the story when it comes to him. I am not in the sabres locker room so I have no idea how he perceived

Landy is 24 years old...so 6 years. You hate landeskog bc you love ROR. Which is just a weird thing

If that's the case, then the only thing that matters is Jack's relationship with the Sabres' management. Who the (frank) cares what some hack reporter thinks? I don't think the Sabres or the fan base are going to let some columnist for a rag of a newspaper, run the best player we've had since Lafontain out of town, because he has a chip on shoulder for some unbeknownst reason.

I think he's a superstar in the making.

I think he's the X factor between the two teams

You could argue that

Eichel/Matthews
Rielly/Risto
Kadri/ROR
Nylander/Sam

All are or close to equal, but the Sabres have NO one close to Marner outside of Jack.

They are going to trade JVR for a top 4 D, and be completely loaded.

Matthews
Marner
Nylander
Kadri
Kapanen
Hyman
Brown
Bozak
Leivo
Bracco

Rielly
Gardiner
Carrick
Top 4 D trade

point taken, but you also need to take into consideration that this edition of the leafs have had everything going it's way all season as all of their top players played in nearly every game
