When you have a core like they do, it's easier to find guys like Guentzel and just plug them in. If Jake Guentzel was in Buffalo's top 6, we would be talking about how the team needs an upgrade. And it would.
- buffalofan19

Not entirely. You have to have semblance of talent.

Guentzel does, so does Sheary. They also fit the mold of what Pitt needs.

They know what type of player they need, and draft accordingly

I know no one's going to care but I do how does Pittsburgh keep finding these good players
Now you have jake Guentzel another 3rd round pick gem

The Pens fans complained forever about how they were never finding talent in the draft until the past couple of seasons.

Took them quite a while.

Can you admit that there is another career arc for the guy besides "only going to improve"?

I understand you're hyped up about your guy but it is possible you've seen the best of him already and he never plays to this level again. Everyone, including myself, has had prospect bias and thinks that their team's prospects will trend perfectly but the fact is that probably won't happen for majority of your rookies & prospects, even the ones that your Leafs had such a good time watching this year.

- Phatjohnsn

Your right! and this is the thing,we have to trust our scouting, coaching, and g.m.,and if it was no nuts or Burke I'd be worried! But I'm ok with the leafs scouting, coaching, and g.m.! Honest question.. do you trust yours?

Agreed, but the point is there are plenty of Jake Guentzel's out there. They're not rare by any means. With players like that, it's much more about fit than it is talent.
- buffalofan19

Eh, no there really aren't that many. This is a guy on a major upswing

He was 3rd in the AHL in points per game in his first half year there (made it to the NHL) and the two ahead of him were AHL vets/lifers.

He was making a name for himself all year.

Start singing a Broadway show tune and do jazz hands.

The door awkwardness will be forgotten quickly.

You're welcome.

At our office guys hold doors ALL THE TIME for women, also let them on/off elevators first. Lots of gentlemanly play here, but the women are getting a little snooty and they don't return the favor. Equality! Except when it's time to hold doors or hump paper boxes. But don't you dare expect them to make the coffee because then you're sexist. Equal pay for equal work, except for the work I can't or won't do because I'm a woman. Maybe it's just my office.

not sure why holding the door would be gender specific? who actually thinks holding the door for a girl vs not is going to affect their chances of getting laid?

Ill give it a big push/pull. if the persons close enough they wind up getting to it in time and if they're not it avoids that awkward scenario where the person feels obligated to run because you've held the door for them.

Bills restricted free agent RB Mike Gillislee signed a two-year, $6.4 million offer sheet with the Patriots.
Per NFL.com's Ian Rapoport, the deal includes $4 million in 2017. It's designed to be difficult to match, but it won't be impossible. The Bills have five days to make a decision. With Gillislee tendered at the original-round level, the Pats would owe the Bills a fifth-rounder if they let Gillislee walk. Gillislee has showed explosion and power as a change-of-pace back. He would be an intriguing addition in New England, and likely mean the end of LeGarrette Blount's time in Foxboro.

Let him go. with that 5th round pick we can get our Tom Brady (he was picked in the 6th) and begin our legion of doom domination over the AFC East for 20 years. Or, keep him and have like 8 RBs on the roster.

Bills did kind of set themselves up for this one though. They should keep him nevertheless.
