Him and Connolly both took a lot of heat but at their best they both were a must watch when the puck was on their sticks

Connolly was unreal at times. One of the best stick handlers ive ever seen. He got ran out of town.

If only he got the same sympathy as players do now for going through injures like that. He got completely trashed by the fan base. The guy prob went through hell..

ROR earned it back in Colorado.

To give the C to Jack would be a flimsy move. Dudes already been labeled a "whiner" -

No he didnt.

Where is all this ROR is a leader coming from?
Dating back to Colorado days his leadship has been continually called into question.

Yep ...... and there lies one of the main problems attracting big time players/coaches to Buffalo.............. the Sullys, Harringtons and Buckys of the area in addition to the fan base. Sad but true ..........

I am so over hearing about Gionta and his Stanley Cup victory. This article sums it up perfectly... not willing to pay the price to win. Gionta may be a consummate professional, but he only scored 1 goal in 24 playoff games the year the Devils won the Cup!!! If a Sabre only scored 1 goal in that many playoff games, we as fans would all be trying to trade him out of town. He rode the Brodeur Wagon straight to the finish line... that is perfectly fine, but let's just call it what it is. Gionta didn't win anything, he was just on the right team at the right time. Not to mention, the Habs have looked better ever since he left. I don't dislike having him on the Sabres, but I don't see him as a part of the solution (short or long term).

Imo i dont think the captaincy and/or coach/player disconnect is as big of a issue as people think.

We start the year healthy and get a few wins, issues will disappear quickly. Still think if healthy were closer than people think

Only the players in the locker room know who the C should be. I have a feeling it's not Jack

Good Post

The GM of this team called him out for it too. Said he needed more leadership from the core vereran players going forward.
Assuming he is not talking about Gionta, Moulson or Gorges (non-core players)

That leaves two people ROR and Bogosian.

The team was healthy for a long stretch of time during after the Week break and was terrible.
IMO, its not that easy.

It was the same thing with Patty. He kept on calling out the leadership of the core. Why they added Briere, Beauchemin, Iggy, etc.

I dunno there might be something behind that narrative

Not trying to be so down on the guy because I like what he does on the ice, but this leadership narrative seems very off base. He has yet to prove he is a leader and he has said so himself.

Just because players are back from injury and playing doesn't necessarily mean they are back healthy, probably playing hurt

Then those players need to (frank)ing go. Everyone needs to get this straight....this is Jack Eichel's team.

Im the same way, I love ROR the player, he is a talent. But I don't buy into the Leadership skill thing either. It really started from his dad being his biggest advocate about his leadership intangibles.

I just look at, the fact he wasn't named Captain after his 2nd year in the NHL and the Avs made Landy the face of their franchise as being heralded this kid is an NHL captain in the making....he had a grudge against the organization? I dunno this all doesnt add up. Maybe there was some talks behind the scene before Landy came on board. But if he felt entitled to something so early, its odd

Different when youre already playing from behind and then get healthy.
Look at Dallas and Florida

The first 2 months of next year are a make or break for this team.
