I'll just let this quote from Mike Sielski's piece on philly.com sit here

Poor Ghost....

- dragonoffrost

I just love how completely different they are. Ghost has to push the envelope and make super aggressive plays to be effective. Provorov has to make calculated plays and just let the play come to him to be effective.

Yes it speaks to building a good roster when you have the mix we should have in a bit.

Provy and Hagg seem to be the all around guys. Ghost will be the freewheeling (Karlsonn lite) guy and then Gudas and Morin should be the solid defend the blue line from entry guys.

Then whatever Sanheim and Myers can bring if they pan out will be interesting to see.

Werenski done for playoffs. (frank)

There goes the Jackets giving the Pens any issue at all.

I think gudas and morin will get redundant. Ideally on a cup contending d I'd want one of the 2 max

Start drinking then because something is definitely wrong with you

You're going to need a Franchise center at some point. We have an over abundance of up and coming D. You can trade one of the other ones and hope you get a second line center in return, you can pray at the draft every year or you can be bold and swing for the fences knowing you have 6 more young D waiting in the wings.

Don't be a sissy.

I might not play them together but big, heavy hitting defensemen aren't redundant because teams usually don't have two of them.

With the right partners it might behoove the Flyers to keep both. Sanheim has a little Ghost in him from what I saw in Calgary. And I love the idea of Ghost and Morin together. So maybe depending on if you care about shot-handed you go Gudas and Sanheim. But I don't care if they are the same handed just can they play the side they need to to pair up.

We'll see what happens with Morin, but Gudas has a underrated puck skills. He's more than just a heavy hitter IMHHO

I picked the Pens in 7 and being that way they would be easy pickings for Washington in 5.

Now I'm dreading the Pens-Caps series.

I wasn't inferring that it was their only skill. I think you'll find Morin has tremendous skating ability when he has to turn it on and close.

I have high hopes for all of our D prospects. That's the only reason I'd consider trading Provorov for a number one center.

I do find it interesting that the Pens keep finding these tweener types in the AHL who can step up and contribute

I get what you're saying and I think there's a legit argument there. I just don't think any of the other guys will become top 10 defenseman in the league. Then you're right back in the hole of having a 1C, but not a 1D.

Well that's NEVER happening.

It's cool sounding to say that but you're implying he's the second best player in the league and he isn't even the second best defensemen under 21 in the league. At some point you either have to be realistic in your evals or you'll just be stewing in your own juices hoping for the best.

I'm not trading the kid for a ball of twine and three wishes here. I'm trading him for a number one center that's just one year his senior. A player at a position we may spend 5-10 years trying to acquire otherwise.

I think the Flyers will sign a cheap Dman. If young guys are ready they will send him down, if not they got someone who can handle NHL mins. Something similar to Colin McDonald and how he is a guy who gets called up if needed but isnt a main roster piece.

They already have the guys here that if the kids are good enough they'll be sent down, aka Manning or AMac. I really am starting to think they feel 2 are definitely ready and a third is knocking on the door.

I think there's just as good of a chance that Myers or Sanheim become a top 10 defenseman as Provorov.

I'm not saying it's going to happen and certainly not wishing for it for there's a chance that Provorov settles into a solid two way defender and never climbs into a top 10 in the league type Dman. Look at some of the young D that have rolled into the league in the last 3 years... Provorov "should" be right there with them as he matures but will he be in the top ten? Who really knows.

He needs to be traded now. Having to play with a guy like that is going to be worse for his career than watching a couple games from the press box.

I think you're right. I get a sense of confidence this off season when it comes to the young guys on the blue line. It's not a mistake they gave Haag and Morin a look around the NHL at the end of the season.
