Provorov will win 0 Norris trophies unless he is on PP1. Book it. - Mononoke
Probably
The only guy to win a Norris without getting top PP time in the last 35 years was Rod Langway. |

They were further along than us. That's more than true. The guys in the trade were similar though in experience and position.
If you pass on trading Provorov then you could be the Devils, starving for offense and trading a younger D for an older forward who isn't even a pivot.
Myers or Sanheim for Nino Niederreiter doesn't appeal to me. - mayorofangrytown
I believe they can find centers much easier than #1 dmen. look at their history. No way shape or form am I trading provorov. No no no |

I feel like it's not common knowledge that Ekblad is one of the most sheltered d-men in the league. Like almost Ghost sheltered. He did well his first two years as a teen, but he still has a ton to prove IMO. He's also coming off a nightmare season of regression: be it due to health concerns (which could be worrisome long-term), his game flatlining, and/or losing his rock in Brian Campbell. Because right now I think he's basically a sheltered 3rd pair PP specialist, and he's not even that good on the PP. Amazingly he doesn't even PK regularly. Provorov this season alone had ~100 minutes more PK time than Ekblad has in 3 years.
I think Provorov had a better season than any of Ekblad's first 3 years and is better right now by a good margin. He legitimately can stake claim to being a top pair guy already. I see the gap between their defensive abilities as sizable. They're similar offensively though. - Mononoke
Provorov, IMO is the best under 22 year old Dman in the league and he has legit potential to be the best all around Dman in the entire league soon. So, since Inhighly doubt Edmonton has any plans to trade McJesus, Provy ain't going anywhere |

I would move him for McDavid, Matthews, Eichel or Laine. But that kind of trade going down is the pipedream of all pipedreams. |

McDavid obviously then who? Scheifele, Matthews? - MJL
Yes, yes, yes and maybe Eichel as well....but I think it's fantasy land to think any of those would happen. |

Pierre blowing Macavoy to no end bc he slid the puck over on the pp which the guy scored on...like half of g's assists. |

So I haven't been paying too much attention to the Phantoms once they clinched a spot. Is Weal going down or is he now ineligible for the playoffs for some wacky reason?

I've seen him probably a dozen times over the past couple years. I mean grenade on the stick in that he has trouble escaping under pressure many times and I'll think he will struggle with the tempo of the NHL for awhile. I don't think he's bad. Even over the weekend he rushed a pass to a forward on a breakout that resulted in the puck being in the back of the phantoms net. I think it's possible he could improve further under the structured breakouts. Also a player like Morin better be damn near perfect in his d zone if he's going to make it...he ain't bringing much at the other end. - Just5
Let's be realistic in terms of what level Morin has to be to make it. The standard you offer of needing to be damn near perfect is unreasonable. Most defenseman other than the very best are niche players who excel in one area of the game. Whats changed over the years is that you can no longer have defensive defenseman who can't move the puck play significant minutes and be a successful team like you could a decade ago or so.

The only player on that list I would trade Provorov for is McDavid. I would say no to the rest.

I think there are a few on his tier, and I wouldn't bat an eye if anyone said they are as good. But better? I don't think so. I mean if Provorov played on PP1 all year like Werenski, he likely gets 45 points or something. And his defensive game is much more evolved. And he doesn't play with Seth Jones, who arguably is the real numero uno on CBJ.
Werenski, who is the obvious guy battling for under 22 superiority, might very well be as good, but Provorov is the d-man with the skill-set this team needs. |

Fun fact: that was our 2nd rounder used on Carlo. We drafted bottom 7 and didn't have our 2nd rounder for some reason....... |

1) Werenski
2) Ekblad
3) Hanifin
4) Carlo
5) Chychrun
6) Chabot
7) Provorov - Mononoke
After reading your comments about Ekblad and Chabot being in the Q still this ranking is a bit confusing. I dont know much about Carlo or Chychrun, but I would rank Provy above Chabot, Hanifin, and Ekblad atleast. |
