[quote=CubanBuffet]It's no accident that the majority of those players developed together on the farm. But I'm not sure that the market will allow it or if management can withstand the pressure to insert young guys as quickly as possible. I keep reading that we can't send someone back to junior or someone is NHL ready before they've played a game. I'd be trying to keep the prospects from the NHL for as long as possible.

You raise valid points but at the same time, if a prospect is ready, it's not always best to shield them from greater competition. What would Boeser gain from playing college next year?

I'm sure that Boeser will be on the Canucks next season and will be one of our more productive players, but if he had decided to stay in school would that hurt his development? You can ruin your dinner with too much seasoning, but you can't ruin your prospects that way.

Wouldn't ruin his development. Just keep it from progressing.

Well bad habits and complacency can enter a prospects game if they are playing at a level below their abilities. There are negatives to moving prospects to slowly and to quickly. Boeser is ready for the NHL. I thought this was evident at the end of the season? He was easily one of our top forwards (not that that's hard). Next to the Sedin's he was probably the smartest player on the ice.

Teams top players are going NCAA or jumping from Jr. Gaudrea Werenski Jost not too many top prospects are choosing AHL anymore Gramps sorry.

AHL is turning into the fourth line development league

- VANTEL

you don't "choose" the AHL....you get sent there to develop as a pro after you've been drafted. Vantel look at the 2011 draft. Because those guys have had time since the draft, 80 to 90 percent of them were SENT to the AHL to develop after junior or NCAA.

Everyone raves about the Detroit model and why they've had so much success over the years, their method was so soak kids as long as they could in the AHL. Just like they've recently done with Anthony Mantha, one more year of junior and then two full years in the AHL to develop.

Look, the reason the Canucks are garbage is because they don't draft well OR develop their prospects properly, when they do, the ones like Cory Schneider, Ryan Kesler, Kevin Bieksa and Demko turn out really well. The ones they rush like Virtanen and McCann and such always struggle.

Ok we can move on from this

Sometimes maybe the on ice becomes a bit stalled but maturity of the person or off ice grows with time.

Do you think OJ is looking forward to playing another year in Jr so he can go spend two more years in Utica? This is why top pics are jumping right from jr to NHL or going into NCAA or Europe.

NCAA is becoming very competitive (even though Lefty's thinking is 20 years behind). You are now playing at 18 19 and 20 against some of the best players out of the NHL.

AHL is missing out on a lot of top end players because the top players miss that extra year

It's a shame that players like OJ can't play in the AHL as that's whats best for his development, not another year in London. This needs to change asap

The developmental tides are shifting. You will see more and more NHL-ready players coming from the NCAA…it's on the upswing already.

I agree with you in that Juolevi SHOULD go the the AHL next year, but he can't, so, he's better off in the NHL with limited minutes.

Junior is a waste of a year for him next year. Although it didn't hurt Edler spending his 19 year old year in junior and his 20 year old year in the AHL.

I know the why but I think it's BS Perhaps, NHL teams should offer compensation if they elect to send a prospect to the AHL. There has to be a better solution.

Good day,

Today's blog has a rundown of the Canucks prospects still in the OHL and QMJHL playoffs, as well as a look at how ex-Canucks are faring. Hi Zack Kassian!
