A 19 year old scoring 40 only happens once every generation....if you want to get technical he's the first 19 year old to do it in a long long time.well guess who just did that? Matthews...

He's well on his way to being a generational player and after the first year nobody can say otherwise.

If you can't tell the difference between McDavid and Matthews/Eichel, I am not sure you actually know what your watching.

Why is calling out the players on your team who aren't pulling their weight or giving their all whining?
- BigStew

When you get drafted 2nd overall it means your team sucks. Have you ever heard Crosby or Ovi call out their team. Maybe in the room.

I have heard Crosby do it many times, I also heard Messier do it many times when their teams were not putting full effort into every game. I have also heard it from stars in other sports, its not that uncommon.

McDavid is in a class of his own. I have to watch his goals in slo-mo to see what the fuk he did.

I guess we just watch different TV and read different articles. People used to call Crosby and baby and a whiner for how he complained about some team mates and refs.

Maybe I just dreamed that. Jim Kelly and Thurman Thomas used to call out their team mates, not sure I would call either of them a whiner but who knows I guess.

We're talking hockey here. Terrell Owens used to blame his teammates too. Real role model there. Crosby got the rep for female doging at refs. Just like Wayne got called Whine Gretzky.

Leadership happens on the ice and in the room. Definitely not in front of bunch of reporters. Eichel slowed down in the stretch drive. Who's fault was that?

I'm not sure what you are watching. I highly doubt you have enough time to watch full games of the Oilers, Sabers and Leafs all season for an extended time. But if you did I commend you sir.

I'm not arguing who's better, I don't see anyone doing that right now...I'm arguing to say that he is generational. Well, because he says proved all season long that he is.

You are a Sabres fan so I don't expect you to have watched more than a handful of full Leafs games this year. So I'll just use facts. Matthews has been breaking records for the Leafs and the NHL all season long.

All the way from scoring 4 goals in his first ever game in the NHL to being the only 19 year old to score 40 goals in the modern era. Ovi did score 50 at 20 because of the lockout. So he played in the KHL after his draft year. He led the NHL in even strength goals at 31.(that could even be a record for a rookie for all I know)

All this with having ONLY rookies on his line and being a Center with great two way abilities . Hyman all season long and a mix of Brown and Nylander.

The season he just had..is the type of rookie seasons generational players have. No one can argue that at all...you are welcome to whatever opinion you would like...however I'll use facts to back up mine.

Matthews scored 4 goals in his first game.

He finished 1st in even strength scoring in the league.

He may be a bust. He may be a "generational talent."

Neither you nor I have any way of making a definitive declaration at this point.

It is far too early.

I was commenting on the statement that Leafs fans were saying Matthews was better than McDavid and in the games I have watched I don't believe that to be the case. You can call him generational if you want, I don't really care.

I don't understand where Murray come off as arrogant, (adj.) (full of or due to pride, haughty). He takes blame when things go wrong, he pretty much always tells it like it is. He didn't stand there during his press conference and say everything is fine. he talked about the flaws of his team open and honestly, He just didn't go into detail on how plans to address the problems., but I wouldn't stand there and tell the media my plans either. He knows damn well he could be shown the door tomorrow and I'm sure he would except that decision in a manly fashion.
- macman9

He did seem more humble at this presser, no doubt, and I give him credit for taking the team's faults on his shoulders, but I do get where other teams fans feel Murray is arrogant, or at least, he was. When he came here he was cocky and over-confident in his abilities. He made his moves, a lot did not work out as planned and he's now taking the heat for it.

I would like for him to turn this rebuild around, and I think he has it in him to do it, but he needs to be smarter about his decisions and not so eager to throw assets around, he doesn't have many left.
