call me a conspiracy theorist but organization on the verge of being bankrupt again and the Pens get Crosby.....granted they did suck. Hawks suck for years and jump up and get Kane. I think Snider sold the Flyers hockey soul for that 2 cups in the 70's
- nastyflyergirl

The Flyers have had a ton of bad luck the last 40 years. Hard to explain.
They've lost 6 straight trips to the Finals. Each time was at the hands of a team that was pretty much in the midst of a dynasty. They've been really good at the wrong times. Of course we don't have to re-hash 95, 2000, 2004 we know the story there.
Throw in not getting Kane, Lindros concussion history, the unspeakable tragedy with # 31, Tertyshny, Pronger..... it just goes on and on with no end in sight.

More hindsight" from me in the JVR blog.

The more I think about this second round pick, the less it makes any semblance of sense.

Trading a goaltender in Bobrovsky, whose course should have been a developmental one, and using the pick on a project goaltender who is at the very least 5-6 years away is puzzling to say the least. I don't get it.

Ed Snider and his lack of patience. Flyers have lacked patience in their desire to win. and that is why I am 100% on board with Hextall building through the draft and that is why I get frustrated with the people who female dog about this taking long after a few years under Hextall

Why keep him just to watch him get embarrassed by the Penguins in the playoffs?
- YuenglingJagr

He certainly hasn't played well. But you aren't beating the Penguins scoring one goal a game. That said, I'll take Bobrovsky back instead of the tandem we are going to see the next two years.

The Flyers have been a very good organization with one of the best winning percentages over the years but yeah, their luck has been unfortunate.

I really didn't have a problem with the Ed Snider lack of patience. With his health issues, we all would have demanded the same thing because he was one of the few owners who was really a passionate fan. Sure he wanted to make money, and was a shrewd businessman, but he wanted to win as badly.

Clarke and Homer ultimately failed because they didn't draft worth a darn. Hextall is the polar opposite of the two. However, he has to show a better eye for getting value in free agency (production in comparison to cost) and he needs these latest coaching decisions to pan out or he will be rightly criticized. His ability to trade has been pretty sound.

Yes they have been. It makes the fact of not winning in 40+ years all the more frustrating. Like you said they've been one of the top winning % teams over the course of those years.

I mean in 79-80, they went 35 straight games without losing, then they lose 4 of 6 to the Islanders.

There luck post 75 when it comes to the Finals has just sucked:

76: played a Habs dynasty with Parent & Macleish both injured

80: Potvin's high stick and (frank)ing Stickle

85: No Kerr, no Lindbergh and facing the Oilers dynasty

87: (frank)ing Oilers again and no Kerr. It's a miracle they even got to game 7

97: Murray goes with a 2 goalie system and it blows, he also gets badly out coached by a Scotty Bowman. This one can't really be pinned on bad luck

10: Goalies can't stay healthy and the Cinderella journeyman turns into a pumpkin at the worst possible moment. Pronger playing on one leg didn't help either.

04 losing to TB in game 7 of the conference finals....I firmly believe they beat TB and Calgary had the defense been healthy

It's simple. Win SHL finals then get over to LH for the second round of the Calder Playoffs. He's young - he can handle it.

I was just thinking about some of the weak suspensions or lack there of as of late among stars in this era. Sidney Crosby should have been suspended for chopping off a player's finger and much more should have been made of this when he wasn't. I'm sure Methot has grounds to sue Crosby and I bet that conversation has already been had to insurance this doesn't happen. At least not publicly. Brad Marchand has been a repeat offender and this guy is only suspended right up to the playoffs. What kind of league has this become?

Wasn't Derien Hatcher once suspended at the end of a season that caused him to miss the remainder of a season and two games of the start of a playoff series?

For all the stupid moves the Flyers have made of late, gotta give props for them finding players late or as free agents.

Bob went undrafted, but the Flyers brought (wish his situation would've been handled better at the end), Myers went undrafted (really both him and bob were passed up by the Flyers in the draft themselves but still rectified that bringing them both in), and Lindblom in the 5th round.

Now out of those 3 only Bob is in the league right now. So there's still unknowns about how Myers and Lindblom turn out but Myers went from being undrafted to being a top Dmen for Canada's WJC team and Lindblom went from a fifth round pick to being on of the best players in the top Swedish league as a 20 year old. What they turn into in the NHL is still up for grabs but good finds by this team.

Honestly if we look back at the last decade or so they Flyers have been pretty solid at drafting at the very least their first round guys. Not saying they've all worked out (JVR didn't but he is a solid player). The only ones that come to mind as a possibly bust are Laughton and Sbisa.

I was hoping if his team got eliminated in the Semis yesterday against Frolunda he would go to the Phantoms, and play in the playoffs (not even sure if they could do that legally?).

I wonder if he got a chance to make Sweden's world championship team?

They've historically done a pretty good job at finding guys outside of the draft:

Barry Ashbee
Tim Kerr
Ilka Sinisalo
Miroslav Dvorak
Andy Delmore
Bobrovsky
Matt Read
Raffl

and hopefully contributing soon:
Vecchione
Lindblom
Myers
Lyon

It's a pretty decent list.

I'm hoping our ''2nd'' and ''3rd'' lines stay intact starting next season. They showed really good chemistry towards the end of the season. Would like to see more of them on opening night.

11 Travis Konecny - 28 Claude Giroux - 93 Jakub Voracek
40 Jordan Weal - 51 Valterri Filppula - 17 Wayne Simmonds
22 Dale Weise - 14 Sean Couturier - 10 Brayden Schenn
96 Lindblom - 74 or 21 Vechionne - 78 PEB

Cousins or Read.... Vegas ?

Really don't want Lindblom on the 4th line. His puck possession skills and ability to get to the net and finish would compliment G and Jake more than Konecny would. I'd rather see:

Lindblom-G-Jake
TK-Coots-Schenn (Coots & Schenn drove that line down the stretch)
Weal-Filpulla-Simmonds
PEB-Vecchione-Weise
