I'll watch on TV only. I'm not buying tickets.

The only way I get to watch them is the Center Ice package. Guess what has 2 thumbs and will be saving $150.00 this year?

Yeah, this was posted last night. If the goal was to lure the Isles back to NVMC, then the County just blew $165MM. The shell is just too small to accommodate a modern NHL arena. Not enough seats, even if they add to them. Inadequate bathroom facilities. The rotunda around the arena is too small/too crowded. And no mass transit, meaning those fans who show up are stuck paying $40 for parking, as you pointed out. This is not a viable option.

But, but, but they just slapped $165m worth of lipstick on it. Why wouldn't they want to go back there?

Sorry late to the party......

I did read they said they would spend the necessary monies to add seating. They also said it makes no sense to add a new arena 10 miles away. Seems to me they are being run by Garth Snow, and trading for a UFA who's gonna walk. If they thought they would spend all that money to renovate and that would bring the isles back that was a horrible business move. Seeing as though they didnt do much to the concourse, and that they are now charging $40 for parking, thats pretty pathetic.
Of all the options, I really hope Belmont is the move. It makes the most sense, as the owners would be part owners of an arena, which is where the real money is.

If they were trying to get them back, and will now spend the money for extra seats, why wouldn't they have done so from the start. The cost would've been much less while construction was taking place versus creating a new project. I like how it said "complimenting each other not cannibalizing each other". By cannibalizing, do they meaning running the old coli out of business.

From what I've read, the current seating is about 13,000. Adding seating simply gets them to 15,000 which is considered the bare minimum for NHL arenas. Modern NHL arenas are designed to hold close to 20,000 people. As hockeyman suggested, the whole exercise is slapping lipstick on a pig.

I paid $77 bucks (with like 5 or 6 other guys) for a suite for the NSH game a few weeks ago. Never sitting in the regular seats ever again.

Wang's last building plan should have been approved. Did not seem like a huge tax for LI for what I remember?

The County didn't blow it BSE did, they also run BC.
Lets for get about the new venue in belmont. I think as far as a hockey arena for the Islanders, BC is much better option as far as the bathrooms and the concession stands! That's most important.
Lets face it, I don't think it will be the same without seeing a Honda in the Islanders defensive corner of the ice for 2 periods. I mean at least people can look at the SUV when the puck is out of their view. It really doesn't matter that the players could break their neck on inferior dangerous ice I mean JT only popped his hamstring thats not so bad.
Really JS I agree, its a perfect place for the Islanders to play, because it make as much sense as the way the Islanders run their business and are viewed by others as a viable NHL team. No sense at all imho.

You bring up a fair point........what I think happened is they expected the isles to stay at Barclays. Now that there's talk of a new arena opening at Belmont, that screws them royally. They'd be wayyyy too close (10 miles i think). So in a panic move I think the coliseum are trying to lure them in........too little too late i guess.

I dont know what they offered as far as upgrading seats.......but the Coliseum of a few years ago wasn't much more than 15-16k in seating i think.

Yeah but the beers end up being cheaper anyway. I think a 6pk of Stella was like $50 or something. We had to share it with a few other people but what the hell do I care. Still beats the hell out of the regular seats.
