No where in my post did I insinuate that they tried to tank before the start of the year.
- CanuckDon

That's what DCT's entire chicken little post was about and likely what inspired the post you quoted.

3 out of the last 4 years the Canucks have accidentally tanked

That's an interesting assumption. I was quoting Ham Bag.

A real tank doesn't sign Eriksson to that laughable contract. That's the issue man.

No one can argue it, just accept it. They started multiple years too late.

- Nucker101

Nope, that's hindsight....

Either way, you referred to people(whiners) complaining about the tank this year when they were the ones screaming for what happened at the TDL during the day Linden was hired.

I highly doubt any of them are complaining about the team finally realizing how badly they (frank)ed up.

Chi fans would know, they had a rough decade for 30 years.
- Crazybagoham

lol…very true.

This isn't the Kevin Lowe show here…can't see ten years of futility what I can see is 1-3 years of decent picks and go from there. Lots of moves can be made to make a young team better in that time frame.

Other options include:
Just waiting on the next generational talent to fall on our laps.

So long and tanks for everything.

We will hire Babcock in 2045. Problem solved.

Yes, I agree that with not getting Ruff or Crawford. Unless Cooper becomes available, I don't think I have a "1st choice" as far as coaches go.

Dallas Eakins has done a good job with the Gulls.....do you go back to that well

I would like to see a Hartley/ Sutter combination... bring in a couple of guys to work together...

It wasn't hindsight. It was foresight.

Exactly. Two years of "we need to sell these guys while we can" later and here we are at our second straight bottom out season because our roster is poop. I think the pro-tank crowd deserves a little bit of love, personally. We called it, told ya'll that this team trying to make the playoffs is a joke. But, noooooo. we need to stay competitive. thankfully Benning did sell off some assets this year, if we're really lucky he'll try to do the same in the off-season. Edler and tanev should still fetch a nice return. I do like the Alzner suggestion that (I think) Rueben made.

I've been going with #top5pick for quite a while. Spector is full of poop, JB has already done waaaaaay better than 90% of Edmonton's GM's.

Hearing Benning say he didn't expect this to be a 70 point team gave me a bit of pause, but finally they appear to have had the fog lifted.

well...to be fair. They finished the season with 8 straight losses It took a lot of incompetence to fall below 80 points.

He was talking about mid-season, so yeah you're right in that sense. But the writing was on the wall since he took the job IMO, especially after last year. I sincerely hope he considers whatever offers come his way in terms of improving our draft picks. Another first this year or next would be a big boost going forward.

That's because there are no fingers to be pointed. if anything we should be the ones saying "I told you so" in every blog this entire summer

A lot of the people who defended Benning are being humbled, including Benning and Linden themselves who look like scolded little puppies yesterday It's clear that their plan to keep this team competitive whole re-tooling failed and now finally after 2 and half years(starting at the TDL) they've realized this.

Just because I(and others) don't like him and the direction of the fanbase, doesn't mean the whiners won't deny the good things he's done(Granlund, Tanev contract, Boeser/Demko/Tryamkin, Bieksa deal, Stetcher, etc.). It's just that a lot of the bad he did was unnecessary and easily avoidable and this management group's plan was flawed from day 1.

And it's okay for the whiners to continue to be sceptical because this is the man who thought Sbisa was worth 3.6M, called Brandon Sutter foundational, signed Eriksson to that contract, and thought this team was good enough to be competitive the past 2 seasons and wasted picks on Vey/Clendening/Pedan as part of his "age gap" plan.

And the man we have as president, who wasn't even involved in hockey for years thought it was a good idea to hire a rookie GM and rookie Head Coach. I(and a few others) said it back after year one(this was after the pleasant rebound season) that there are red flags with this group moving forward.

The good thing moving forward is that they have 3 more years of experience along with a nice dose reality compared to the day they were hired.
