I think it's a mistake too, but it seemed to work out well for Cooper in TB.

with cooper it was probably obvious he was a great coach and would handle the nhl

I remember feeling a bit of a sense of excitement when Benning and Linden took, the team was ripe for a rebuild and had two first round picks from the Kesler trade, plus a bunch of other picks in the second and third rounds.

Sadly they've (frank)ed away three years trying to compete when they should have been rebuilding. They do have a couple good prospects though.

For some reason I've got that feeling again, I think they've finally accepted this is a full-on rebuild, not a re-tool team. Sincerely hopeful this comes to fruition!

I'd like a coach that isn't determined to play dump and chase. Let the kids, and the veterans for that matter, use whatever creativity and skill that they have. It's not like wins are the priority next season, it's a development year. But I think that management favours a safer style where losing by one goal creates the illusion of competitiveness. So they'll probably hire a rookie coach that is more likely to play their system.

The problem with that is, the new coach won't have a say in his staff. That won't fly with any quality coach.

theres 2 assistant spots still open, so they can yes

I would like too have Sutter come coach for a while. He will bring a good structure and a physical aspect to this team. He is capable of having a decent offensive system in play while still maintaining a solid defensive structure.
Players like Juolevi, Virtanen, LaBate, McEwen, McEneny and even Pedan will be given every opportunity to thrive under Sutter's direction, whether it be Darryl or Brent(I prefer Brent).

or perhaps now we can finally lure johns stevens from the kings instead

Whiskey next year is gonna be a carbon copy of this year but the following year should very interesting with the Sedins (hopefully) leaving. There's a great opportunity to draft some elite kids coming up through the draft.

Morning!

I'm not sure if I'm up late or early thanks to all my pre-playoffs writing commitments.

Whatever it is, the blog is up. Some thoughts on where Willie fit into the current coaching scene and, as promised, my playoff picks.

Well done, you are to coaching assessment whay vantel is to player assessment..... except you allow who and false bravado to overwhelm your dignity in dealing with others in a rational manner. You have good points butI find them overwhelmed by your overextended compensation causing you to dig your head into the sand of your opinion and not listen to others opinions.

Have you ever coached bro?

Babcock wouldn't make this team as constructed into a contender.

WD isnt the best but he want hurting us, the goal should be to develop for another tour
Year and aim for the bubble in 2019.
Otherwise your gonna sounds like JB, the goal is to make the playoffs.

Roster is AHL weak right now, bro.

Ain't no coach gonna take an AHL team to the NHL playoffs and of you believe their is one who can, could you please name him?
Thanks and goodbye.

- Pres.cup

Ive addressed this before, not sure why you ask me the same things over and over

Yes wd was hurting us.

Don't you know that with th the right coach this is a playoff team.

So no is not a development year, its a Stanleycup or bust year.
And if is bust that its gonna be..... then we're gonna find some broads and ensure that they don't....

I actually dont have a dislike for the Blue Jays, but I thought it would rile some up. Kinda scary stat for their fans that only 3 teams have done it in 40 years though, all while playing 162 game seasons
- WhiteLie

I'm not at all concerned about that stat, or their start. Did same thing last year.

Never have liked Hartley, but like Sutter's, Brent especially. Who would you like?
- Reubenkincade

When Brent was brought in to cgy they were in a similar position as the Canucks and it was a disaster ...guy was highly thought of and considered a winner ...but that team was crap plain and simple

It all depends on what fans want ...bringing in Dutter makes no sense as he seem to be a guy who can get that little bit extra out of a team looking to make a push for playoffs or a cup ...Hartley is kinda that way too

Hiring your ahl coach makes sense when he has been coaching a group of players ready to make the jump ...but that's not really the case in van

I am ready to welcome new management.

Trevor is too close to the team and really doesn't know what is best for the team . He thinks with his heart not his head.

Benning is paying for Gillis signings but in three years there has not been a lot to stand tall about. The prospect pool is stronger but we are still rolling out a roster of Skille Megna Chaput. This should have been the roster 3 years ago not year 4.

Edler is going to walk just like Hamhuis and Vrbata did with no returns.

We failed with one rokie coach but will bring in a second rookie coach with the same roster, while experienced coaches remain unemployed.

This team is too nice and nice guys finish last

- VANTEL

Agree with most of what you say for sure but indifferent on a few things.

I'm not lost on Benning and Linden just yet. We are all aware of the Aquilini's meddling and such and I would like to see what TL and JB can do for a year or two if left alone. FA's last comments seem to sway in the direction that he is going to let Benning do what is needed to rebuild properly...we'll see I guess.

Our 4th line here is going to be scraps for awhile so the Skille Magma's and Chappoos of the world are going to be reality for us. It is what it is.

There is no point in bringing in a high dollar coach for this roster...none. I'd rather see Green grow with the club is that's the case as the organization has 4 years years invested in Green...would be a shame to see him walk to another club. I'm not saying Green is the answer...but neither is a high dollar coach with this group.

But agree the club is way too 'nice' on the ice. Great to see Bo and B Hutt fight you can really see the leadership changing. Sedins or Edler would never do that for teammates but we've known that for years.

Bo didn't really have a choice as Nurse pretty much decided they were going to fight on his own, but he did a great job. Seeing Hutton race over to help out a teammate was awesome
