I agree, but not if the PP was what it was this year.
- Nucker101

Well Perry Pearn is gone. Boucher looked fine with Horvat and you never know how injuries are going to play out. Keeping him around wouldn't hurt. Played not even 30 games and finished top 9 on the club for goals and like 7th for forwards

He won't clear waivers to send down. But he's shown he can be versatile playing up and down the line up on both wings. Heavy quick shot and PP capable. Is good depth guy to keep around. Got a little griiter using stocky frame. Needs to play with speed guys to cover him on backcheck.
- Nuck4U

He's a pretty useful "third guy" on the right line.

Obviously not quite as good as Samuelsson used to be, but kind of similar in that mould.

Yeah, I'm open to letting him battle for a spot in training camp but I'm not holding my breath over him being on the opening night roster next year.

Hmm, I forgot what the exact rule was then. I think it has something to do with how they transfer from Europe to the CHL. Some CBA nerd can probably fill me in.

He was on loan , would be the only thing I can think of.

Just watched the end of the year presser on youtube....sounds like Benning/Linden prefer a younger coach.

They both look like defeated/humbled men judging from their body language

I wouldn't be sad if he was gone, but I think if they play their cards right they have something they could turn into another asset.

Thats the way a lot of the guys over the next 2 years have to be looked at. Not the worst thing in the world to play a kid or two on the farm while you pump and dump the value of some guys you don't have long term plans for. Every year teams look for a dash of scoring or PP help or general forward depth at the deadline.

I've been wanting to do what the Leafs did with guys like Polak/Spalling/Santorelli, sign cheap UFA's to 1 year deals and then flip them at the TDL.

Gets you essentially free draft picks and provides stopgaps/competition so young players aren't rushed.

But even sweaty, big eyebags Gillis never looked this defeated/embarrassed, guess he was more of an alpha

You fail as much as they have at what they declare they could accomplish and that'll happen.

They promised him they could turn it around quickly, and were a playoff team so fair enough. Then said they improved a 100pt team the next year, and they dropped like 30 points in the standings. Then they said this years team would compete for the playoffs after the improvements they made, but it got worse.

Its hard to even play the injuries card. Dorsett, Rodin and Gudbranson are really the only guys who really missed time. Hard to believe any of those guys in the lineup makes much of an impact.

STH renewals are going on right now and I can't imagine they're doing well.

I don't know. Once Gillis hit crisis beard era he was in pretty rough shape.

He looked rough with that awful facial hair, but his body language and his actual language was still that of a guy who was confident in what he was doing and planning next. btw I'm not reading into this, it's more of a joke lol

Still love how he was out on the golf course during his last TDL here when he was pissed that Aquilini stopped him from trading Kesler.

He didn't give a poop about how bad it looked

Yeah, that can basically double your picks at any given draft and I'm actually pretty on board with JB's work on amateur players. Really puzzling that pick hoarding hasn't been much of a strategy yet. Would really like to see them go balls out for picks next year. Try selling Boucher, Sbisa, Gudbranson, and a few "reliable" "intangible" "experienced" guys for the bottom 6.

Take a flyer or two on whoever ends up being Kris Versteeg or Lee Stempniak this year and cash them in for a 2nd or 3rd.

'Change was inevitable, but the Canucks' problems run deeper than coaching tactics.'

Well said Carol.

Hank and Dank said they will be much better next year...

Playoffs!

Yeah. The detractors don't like his size and speed. If you aren't crushing guys or flying out there then "AHL you" lol.

JB will qualify him on a show me contract. I see him here next season as spare or fourth liner. But now a lot has to do with who the coach is too.

It sucks for a year or two, but then when you have a farm team of 21 year olds because you went into a pair of drafts with 10 picks in the top 60 and like 22 picks in two years its pays off.

Even if those kids don't pan out, you can spend them in prospect for vet trades to improve the edges of your roster.

Button just said he is a huge Green fan and thinks he is the coach as well
- CanuckDon

They don't wanna lose Green. They had an out, to can WD. Jarvis is still here to help out. Green should be the guy.

Will be nice to see what he does with some actual talent. Sure, there is literally now #1 line here. But, it's better than what he had to work with in Utica.

I've been preaching this strategy since the day Benning/Linden were hired, it killed me inside when I saw Toronto of all teams doing it.

I think as long as they don't do something dumb and commit another Eriksson, he's got a spot somewhere on the team next year.

Would be kind of pointless to throw him away if it came down to him or Megna or whoever is the new Skille next year.

1040 poll - 58% said Green is the best candidate

Crawford - 2nd at 28%

There would be some irony in Benning/Linden selling Bo Horvat as the leader of the next group and with Green as the new coach to turn things around. Both Gillis moves.

Similar to how Gillis built around a Burke/Nonis core and Nonis' coaching hire.

Weird how that works out.
