You can always sign a stopgap vet dman to replace him
- Nucker101

Not for your top minute guy. That's just an easier said then done reach. Most UFA stop gaps are expensive and usually don't work out.

But of course I think you say this because you prefer a tear down rebuild and welcome the downturn to continue.

Ok, why can the coach?
I'm sure you're more in tuned about the Canucks than me, but your GM that inherited an aging team, did himself sign a couple of "best years are way behind them" in Ryan Miller and Loui Eriksson. Awesome.

you obviously didn't watch his in game decisions.

I think he's been impressed that Green kept the Comets afloat with crap roster they had this year.

And reward him by setting him up for failure?

Hainsey 1.5 mil

The guy who's #7 on a healthy Pens blueline, and #5 on Carolina, is going to be good enough that a new coach, who always are looking to win games and prove their worth, is going to play him 23 a night instead of telling Ben Hutton "don't worry about the offense or breakout passes. here is how you chip the puck off the glass when i have you pinned in your own zone shadowing mcdavid all year"

Edler sure is Edler, but he's still a decent enough option and has enough veteran clout on the team and in the org to be that guy you toss into the pit.

I think any veteran coach like Hitch or Ruff is going to try too hard to win and do their damnedest to finish in the Winnipeg hole at 7-9 every year versus a new coach who you can probably sell on being the guy to grow with the rebuilding team here.

Who? People say this and then never provide a name's of anyone who would provide a good enough alternative for the coach to actually play.
- Lindenis#1

Doesn't have to be someone as good as Edler, just a vet who won't embarrass himself(easy to play with Tanev) and would sign a 1-2 year deal.

It doesn't matter what name you throw out you are going to find a reason to dislike it. He is a vet Dman that has played in the NHL for 13 years . He can handle 17 -20 min a night

He's the type of player who's going to produce even more at higher levels when he has better linemates to play off of. There's nothing concerning about his production... He was setting guys up left right & centre who weren't capable of finishing or continuing the play.

We are going to see lots of opinions over the next few years. Most will be argumentative I'm sure.

Do You think Vegas would trade their first round pick for Gudbrandson and Sutter?

Because any replacement needs to be good enough that a new coach would trust him. I have seriousy doubts of Ron hainsey being that good.

The cup winning team of last year just traded for him. Maybe he is not all that bad

Fair point. He's gonna be their new #1 for sure and not a depth defender at all who finds himself in the press box if everyone was healthy.

This kind of thinking gets you Andrew Ference and Stephane Robidas contracts.

Instead of a stop gap who would flop and have you screaming to buy out why not heap it on the biggest D we got.

Yes trade Edler if JB can work some draft magic. Then go with developing D concept:

Have Tree partner with Tanev - TNT with some cool hand Luke to tutor
Hutton with Stecher - offensive duo
OJ with Guddy - Protect and break in the rookie

If we're going to suck, then just play out the string with who we have, most UFA D-men are going to want that last big contract and there's no point to that since they aren't going to want to sign for 1-2 years like we'd want.

How does having Hainsey at 1.5 mill(as was suggested in Vantel post) turn into a Ference/Robidas contract. The point of the discussion here was a short term minute eating defenseman. Hainsey is a guy who could eat 17-20 minutes at a cheap price and at 35 you wouldn't sign him for 5 years maybe 2 at the most.

Sutter. Very personable. Total players coach.

He looks the way he does because he has such extreme anxiety worrying about if the players like him. Totally be a great pick for a rebuilding team full of Euro's!
