I'm just going to go in Leroy style and hope for the best

You guys are most likely going to win now .. having the top two picks is the worst

Yep what? There were 2 choices there. Lineups, or every guy gets points?
- Wetbandit1

No the lineups are set you don't have to change them unless there's an injury and you have to pick up a player or you want to drop someone

So everyone except you and Broads had minimal and realistic expectations it sounds like.

implying that my expectations of how the team would perform this year were too high?

I see .... so Bylsma doesn't even really coach .... he simply delegates to his staff. He's a figure-head.

So what will firing him do for the team exactly? Besides moving another whipping boy in line for this board to roast after one or two years?

- fastek

He gets credit for hiring the guy that ran it. Definitely. But you're forced to play offense on the PP. And the Sabres were amazing at it, but 5v5 he forced a poop, defense first, "grinding"(and that's their word) system on them.

I was all for giving him 2 years to really solidify his system. But he's doing the same poop that got him canned in Pittsburgh: playing vets over young kids even when it's obvious that the kids are better, utterly incapable of tweaking the system to fit the players... 2 years is up and year 1 and 2 are basically the same. There's not much reason to expect anything different next year other than another year of progression from Eichel, Reinhart, Risto, Lehner, and some of the other young guys like Rodrigues, Nylander, Guhle and 1st rounder(if any or all make the team).

And to recall all the outrage when the pundits all picked Toronto ahead of the Sabres (though I did say predicting Toronto to make the playoffs was farfetched).
- buffalofan19

Relying on 6 rookies to all come in and hit it out of the park was asinine. That it turned out to be true doesn't make it any less so. There is such a thing as being right for the wrong reason.

I'm too far removed from the hornets nest to really give a rat's arse if the Leafs made the playoffs. I want them to be good again actually as it makes for such a better rivalry.

A lot of things went right for them this year ............. and they could simply right off a cliff next year.

Mostly you draft, say 15 players, but you only start 12 of them, so you have to pick who you want in the lineup, sometimes you have to sit a guy who's playing because you think another guy will do better. But it sounds like this is you just pick your guys and don't have to futz around with lineups.

Yes and your dismal attitude toward everything Sabres confirms it.

Predicting playoffs was farfetched. Most pundits didn't do that. Predicting Toronto to finish ahead of Buffalo wasn't. That's how much this defense didn't improve.

I said it a couple of days ago. I would not be shocked to see them regress like Calgary did last year. As far as the Sabres go next year, I have no idea what to expect.

I guess, but the Sabres actually allowed less goals than the Leafs.

yes, you're right. i thought way too highly of kulikov, gorges and bogosian. especially bogosian. who i blindly supported as a #2 d-man his entire tenure here. Thats why i thought this team was going to make the playoffs from day one.

Perhaps. There were almost zero arguments to suggest they were better though.

You go out and court these vets and try to convince them to sign here .......... then you bury them on the bench? You don't do that if you ever plan to get vets to sign here. And who by the way could you really say that about except for Moulson ...... who completely flamed out yet is being paid a ton of dough. The vets that were brought in here for the most part have met or actually exceeeded expectations.

Bogosian and Kulikov met and exceeded expectations? this statement wouldn't be true even if they were making the league minimum.

If only paper teams counted. The Bills would've had some good teams too.

I'm not saying bury them, but in Pittsburgh he was giving ice time to Craig Adams and Tanner Glass.
