That's fair. But you also have to give him credit for being in the right place at the right time. Maybe he's more of an Andreychuk type player that's not going to make the highlight reel. Certainly we've seen the netfront presence. - Wetbandit1
I hope. He's one of the guys I'm praying is s result of coaching or something

The one thing I said in that blog about Risto was you couldn't count on him not getting torched. He totally cut that out of his game. The getting beat on the rush, either he was too far outside, inside, and/or his gap control was atrocious. This year it was like a totally different guy. If he keeps improving like this and can keep up or even improve on the offensive side, we've got our number 1. I give 0 (frank)s that when he's out there a lot of shots from the point are allowed. That's on the forwards or the coach. Risto's job is in front of the net. He's getting meaner which is also nice, guys know they're going to get a rough ride in front when he's out there. Maybe the suspension will be a positive if now guys have to take a split second to think about him taking a run at them that's all it takes for a mistake to be made and capitalized on.

It still feels more complimentary and less game changer...y. Its not so much his draft status as it is that we chose to build around him

A lot is a relative term here. By asking him to collapse and guard the slot like its the last stand, the give up zone time as well. time that could be spent transitioning into offence.

I think Risto is fine. He definitely didn't get torched a ton, but it was more allowing teams to enter the zone, and stay for a while.
It's all about the draft lottery we're going to get one of those three spots - GERBE!!!75PTS
There is no way the NHL is going to let the Sabres have that good of a pick, get ready for year 3 of payback for tanking, last year it was the worst schedule ever, this year the officials made sure they were going to keep us down, when we weren't killing ourselves with bad play. It was some of the most horrendous officiating I've ever had the displeasure to witness.

Yeah, more than when he's not on the ice. And more overall too. My point was he protects around the net well. And more importantly you don't hold your breath every time there's a one on one with him on the rush.

He'd be great hosting a bed and breakfast - sbroads24
Yeah, but there are 4 other guys on the ice too. His job, while the other team is set up, is to stay by the net. It's the forwards job to push the play to the wall and win a (frank)ing battle.

The schedule was horrible this year too. The entire month of February was a joke.

Oh I agree, hoping a different coach helps with his defense in terms of zone entries.
On the PP Risto is great.
5 on 5 he's focused too much on not allowing a goal rather than trying to transition to a chance st the other end

Yeah, but would you rather have him or Bennett? That was the choice. It was always about: "The Sams. Which one is going to go first?" Then the Panthers won the lottery and everyone knew Ekblad was going first, and it shifted to which Sam would be going second?

this is no longer about who we would've picked, its about what to do moving forward. If you can package reinhart to get a game changer..
