I am one of the "glass half full" guys on this board but today I don't feel that way. It's hard to believe we went backwards this year. The silver lining is the higher draft position, whether we use it to draft a player or trade it. But still, it feels like an empty, lost season. The Sabres seem to be lacking direction and inspiration. At this moment, they seem along ways from the playoffs. Murray has his work cut out for himself this summer.

At this time, no. The only "untouchables" to me are Jack, ROR, Risto and Lehner. Everyone else can be traded. At a reasonable salary, Lehner has more than proved himself to be a solid #1. With Corey Crawford and Chris Osgood being prime examples, you don't need Ken Dryden between the pipes to win the Stanley Cup.

yes, i do. Same way the isles have one because of tavares, we do because of eichel. The actual making of it, comes down to management and coaching. Isles and Sabres have this problem in common. Much incompetence from top to bottom.

Then it's Luongo and Thomas, Quick vs Brodeur, Quick and Lundqvist, Crawford vs Bishop, then it's, maybe they're on to something... One year it's you gotta be big and tough like the Kings, then it's speed is life with the Pens.

I can't think of one person who's ever said you don't need a goalie or a competent one. The argument is you don't need to build around them.

A lot of teams do, I was hoping we wouldn't, and it wasn't a huge regression either. Look at the Avs. The defense sucked, but we knew that going into the season. They scored exactly the same amount of goals as they did last year. They scored 2 today right? 201. And that was without Jack for the first quarter of the season. They allowed 11 more goals than last year. Not good in the slightest, but not some huge drop either. The Avs allowed 35 more goals this year than they did last year. People are talking like the rebuild has failed, shut it down, last one out turn off the lights. A lot of teams go sideways or take a step back in year 2. The Flames did it last year, and they're back in the playoffs this year. The Flames took a 20 point step back, the Sabres? 3.

I see pieces in place in Eichel as our "Kane", ROR as our "Toews/Bergeron", Risto in the making to be a "Keith". I think Lehner is better than Niemi, but I doubt he'll be here when and if this team become contenders.
